538: Racism Among Trump’s Supporters

1. No, I think that high-information folks such as yourself know this.
2. If Trump is the nominee, after the Democrats are done with their Define Trump campaign in the General, I think, that the portion of the populace who thinks he is not really representative will be very small indeed.

If Trump is the nominee, we will not be defining him as republican. That would be the most positive way we could define him. Arrogant, petulant, out of touch with the middle class and poor, those will be how we try and define him.

Ideologically, the 20th Century sucked in a lot of ways. I'm down with going back and re-visiting Wickard v Fillburn. Hopefully a Convention of the States can wrench us back to a more Federalist direction. Socialist States can have their socialism, and Freedom States can have their Freedom :D

And that is why Cruz is scarey. Hyperbole, that he believes...

so illegal alien = n##ger?

btw illegal aliens dont respect the border of this country, dont respect the laws of this country, dont respect the culture, dont respect the language and on and on. so its rich to hear someone else complain about respect

and last i heard "illegal alien" is a legal term thats been around for at least 100 years, prob longer - has nothing to do with race

Just re-read the OP.

Here - I'll help you.

The factor that most strongly correlates with support for Trump is geographic areas that also produce the most searches for the N word.

I would concur. I would point out, however, that many of those racists supporting Trump are, in fact, Democrats.

Partisans will be partisan. Even though Trump is leading the REPUBLICAN primary and the article you linked says, "His very best voters are self-identified Republicans who nonetheless are registered as Democrats", you still managed to turn it into a partisan attack.

Good for you.

Racism is the election world's biggest red herring.

Put yourself in the place of a California democrat: I'm seeing an old Geezer named Sanders and a Clinton named Hillary Clinton who is soon to be enveloped by a world class scandal over her criminality, and Donald Trump who is promising to deport my gardener and housekeeper. And on top of this mess sits Obama, like a calculating Spinx, who pretends that nothing is happening.

Obama is keeping the border door propped open. We need this cheap labor. It is central to California politics. If they were gone there would be a labor shortage, and we'd find ourselves begging for workers, and that means I will probably have to pay more and that costs me and mine m-o-n-e-y. If mowing my lawn is your American dream, I won't stand in your way.

Then we have Trump. Trump is a direct threat to California and what this state hold near and dear: total equality of national citizenship or non citizenship, and a huge disproportion of wages. My gardener is $15.00 a week. (My last guy raised his price to $17.50! Adios, Ramon!) I drive a Tesla, who's price was subsidized by my gardener, Julio. I assume he pays his taxes like everyone else.

It just so happens that this "immigrant labor" is mostly Latino, and "H" visas from India. If it were white, it wouldn't be racist would it? You can't honestly blame trump for dealing these cards.

To deny race is to deny reality. California is an engine of race management. We get it.

uh, my response implicitly accepted the non-absolute, or is that concept beyond your comprehension?

I'll simplify, you need better bait.

Condescension? I'll simplify for you now, since you can't figure out that Trump's message, or more accurately his attitude, is intended to garner the most votes. His political comments aren't targeted to racists, and there is evidence that many working class democrats are attracted to Trump. In short, you had no meaningful point. You just think you do.

My point is that there are racists on both sides. Yours was the partisan claim. :)

Actually, Cruz is probably the one that confirms non-republicans worst impression of the GOP. We know Trump is not really representative of the party. Cruz is the scary one, as he wants to repeal the 20th century, and actually believes the **** he is saying. It is like I said last night, when with what kasich was saying he sounded the most sane, that signifies a problem.

"Repeal the 20th century"? Please, give me a break.

Do you actually believe conservatives care a whit, what flaming libs consider to be a "sane" republican candidate?

and, by extension, the Republican Party is arrogant, petulant, out of touch with the middle class and poor, etc.

Ya'll will have lots of Senate Races you are trying to win, after all.

And that is why Cruz is scarey. Hyperbole, that he believes...

 I believe it. Our Federal Government is way too big, and tries to do way too much. We need to rebalance to where the States take their Constitutional place as the point at which most actual governance occurs, and the Federal Government overrides them only in a few, carefully defined areas.

Your link didn't support your point.

Yours was the partisan claim. :)
There was nothing partisan about my statement, though it doesn't surprise me you don't understand why.

Sure they aren't, they just happen to attract them, and as you pointed out, attracting "the democrat racists as well".

Your link didn't support your point.

Uh, yeah. It did. Specifically it pointed out that many of Trump's most loyal fans are democrats.

There was nothing partisan about my statement, though it doesn't surprise me you don't understand why.

Your argument was that Republicans have this racist element. My counter was only that Democrats have the same racist element.

and what does that have to do with illegal aliens?

...it doesn't, but it has everything to do with the finding in the OP's article that noted a strong link between support for Trump and geographical locations where google searches for the N word are most common.

You're the one who started created some random straw man about illegal aliens.

BLUF: Trump has gotten a lot of his success by winning dominance among a slice of a slice of America, and that slice is bigots. The factor that most strongly correlates with support for Trump is geographic areas that also produce the most searches for the N word.

In the meantime, Trump confirms non-Republicans worst impressions of Republicans, potentially wrecking the party in a once-every-40-years-style event.

Yawn.

If Trump is the Nominee I'll leave the GOP once and for all. The absurdity of this situation boggles my mind.

I won't be voting for Trump but I will say in his defense that just because certain people support Trump doesn't mean that he supports all of their ideas. You can't pick all of your supporters or all of your enemies.

I doubt that Trump will be moving into the White House but if he did I also doubt that he would burn any crosses on the White House lawn.

Of course not. He would burn crosses in front of homes where Black people live. Duh.

You could do one better and leave America and flee to Saudi Arabia or China.

no, you responded to another post which complained about illegal aliens, then i responded to you.

Sure they aren't, they just happen to attract them, and as you pointed out, attracting "the democrat racists as well".

And there are probably Black Panthers supporting Hillary. So her message is probably attracting them, too. There are probably eugenicists supporting Sanders, so we should conclude his message attracts them as well. I do not see any evidence on the part of any of these campaigns that a message is being crafted specifically to garner such support. Must be dog whistles, then.
