CDC says half of all gay black men in US will get HIV..

Yeah...its a phenomenon that to me speaks to the disorder of homosexuality. I dont care if you are a man who likes men. I dont care if you are a woman who likes women. But one would think that if you were a man who likes men you would want a man, not an effeminate man that acts like a woman. Conversely...I really dont get the overweight facial stubble lumberjack look seeking others that go out of their way to look and act as butch as possible.

I think the answer is they are so completely confused to begin with.

omfg....I almost choked on my coffee...this is rich....it made my day...

It sort of makes me angry. People who have seen what they preach fail right before their eyes continuing to preach it. How much more of a dim bulb can someone be? Teaching a teenager with raging hormones abstinence only is about as effective as telling a three-year old not to eat one of the hundred fresh baked cookies sitting on the counter and then leaving the room.

many people come from a base of fear and this produces much unneeded suffering

ignorance comes from that fear, science banishes ignorance and fear and thus leads to informed choices

I also do not believe that many Americans especially poor black males have been taught proper sex education and that is why the numbers are high

when one actually begins to examine the schools that these kids emerge from there can be no doubt that ignorance is a large part of the problem and the resulting high numbers

it's really pretty obvious and sad and unnecessary

however giving people facts gives them power....that works against what many want

I dont know..what do you consider 'failure'? Statistics show that a majority (54%) of high school students do not engage in sex. Personally, I dont believe the right and wrong of any sexual contact should be presented in schools. I think that is a decision students should make after discussions with their parents and after an understanding of their own personal belief system. i DO think there is value in teaching kids that in addition to dealing with raging hormones they are also doing so without a fully functioning brain and they might want to consider that before they make potentially life altering decisions regarding sexual activity and choices of sex partners as adolescents. IN ADDITION...they should be taught about options for contraception with both their strengths and their weaknesses. But I dont think the approach should be "SINCE you are all going to have sex..." but rather, IF you choose to have sex...". The schools job should end at education...not indoctrination.

I don't believe schools are out there telling kids to go **** like rabbits and, by the way, bring along a condom. I'm quite sure the message I was taught back when schools were free from religious intrusion was: if you are going to have sex, A,B & C may happen. So, be sure you use protection.

I believe the message sent is most often "since you are going to have sex anyway....". I dont think that should be the case.

And Im not sure how old you are. Im 53. When I went to school kids werent taught any of this. And this may come as a shocker, but we knew what condoms were. We understood sex can lead to pregnancy. We understood sex can lead to sexually transmitted diseases. Yes...even back then.

Same age. We had a health class in 8th grade describing all the STD's, pregnancy and prevention methods. This was in a Chicago Suburb in...what? 1977 or so.

Yeah, goodness knows, we wouldn't want to teach kids it's actually ok to not have sex. Better to teach them they're abnormal if they're not promiscuous.

Sure, there are zero circumstances or situations in which sex may not be the best or right thing. For some reason, folks like you seem to like the idea of kids having as much sex as possible, in fact, you seem to want to encourage it as much as possible and seem to think that teaching why that is risky and even downright dangerous is wrong. Shoot advocating any kind of morals bothers the hell out of some of you.

That is a blatantly false statement. But it does not surprise me, as there is a massive amount of dishonesty that comes from the abstinence-only crowd.

I went to school in the Northeast, Deep South and West from 7th to 12th. Never once had a sex ed class. They didnt start becoming a thing for us til our kids were being sent home with permission slips to attend or opt out in the 90s.

I always let my kids choose, but we had always had very open discussions with them. We didnt need our kids schools to be their mommy and daddy...we needed them to educate them.

Im fine with the human behavior classes. I think one of the more effective lessons they taught was when the kids had to lug around their 5 pound electronic monitored 'babies' around with them everywhere for a week. Good object lesson. I am also fine with teaching the pros and cons of contraception including abstinence.

I like that. Every girl should have to do that....and, every boy should be forced to hand over 1/2 his allowance to one of those girls for a semester to get a taste for that part of the equation.

They made the boys have a week with the baby too. As I recall, they could only be set down for like a total of 5 minutes during the day or it cost them a letter grade on the assignment.

Boys would know it was bull**** because no one marries their pregnant girlfriends anymore. But, garnishing their allowances or other income would be real-world. lol...they could even stick them in a school jail thingie if they fall behind on the payments.

hmm. a closeted homosexual with some not so subtle innuendo. how droll
You realize if you use a cutting remark to insult gay people it's only going to distress gay people? I wouldn't call your statement droll...unless your target audience is gay?

We should teach them that being abstinent is okay, but we should not also be telling them that having sex is a bad thing like the Texas curriculum does.
SIAP. How can this poster not know of a reason to teach abstinence and not safe sex? Maybe the unprotected sex leads to a child? Which would lead to less promiscuity? That protected sex leads to more promiscuity?

That it's Texas, a conservative state, and conservatives would rather teach their children about sex and sexual encounters than schools?

What?

I understand if you are from Canada and accustomed to socialism, having schools and government teach children about sex is probably encouraged in Canada. Not in Texas. The Texas family takes charge in these matters.

You get the abstinence VS promiscuity angle?

Well Texas seems to be completely unable to do so. Comprehensive sex ed taught in schools is the only way to effectively teach children.

Are you a socialist, much? Well, the schools would be better equipped to hand out condoms in mass quantities.

Linky: Half of gay black men in U.S. likely to be diagnosed with HIV, CDC says

That's not cool if you're a gay black man. Black lives matter.. However, notice how they try and put a nice spin at the end. Although global rates of HIV have fallen, they're going up for homosexual men, NOT down.

Tim-

interesting read along with this and many many other studies:
Half of black gay men in the U.S. will be diagnosed with HIV, CDC says - CBS News
CDC: 1 in 2 Black Gay Men in US Will Be Diagnosed With HIV - ABC News
http://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/docs/factsheets/lifetime-risk-hiv-dx-us.pdf

Though overall, the lifetime risk of HIV diagnosis in the U.S. is now 1 in 99 -- a huge improvement from the reported overall risk of 1 in 78 about a decade ago -- large disparities still exist.
People living in the South are also at a greater lifetime risk of HIV, with the highest rates projected in Washington, D.C. (1 in 13 people), Maryland (1 in 49), Georgia (1 in 51), Florida (1 in 54), and Louisiana (1 in 56).

But the CDC is hopeful that these projections do not have to become a reality.

seems the obvious answer is increased comprehensive education, increased and cheaper access to healthcare/safe sex protection and for people to start cutting down on promiscuous/ new partner unprotected sex.

No, this has nothing to do with socialism.
