Faced with foaming-at-the-mouth socialists who challenged him at his book signing session, this author decided to use the Socratic method.

Some of the questions he asked:

  • Why weren't there demonstrations with anti-feudal slogans under feudal rule? And under Stalin, no anti-communist demonstrations? And under Hitler, no anti-fascist demonstrations? In a free capitalist society, anti-capitalist demonstrations are commonplace. Is capitalism really the worst system?
  • If capitalism makes some people rich without making others poor, who will benefit when capitalism is destroyed?
  • If the poor in America have things that people in other countries can only dream about, why is there a movement to make America more like those other countries?
  • Why, on the rare occasions when Obama's actions benefit America, does his base get angry? And every time his actions are hurting this nation, his base is happy? Who exactly are these people?
  • If cutting out the middleman lowers the price, why are we paying the government to stand between us and the markets?
  • If racial profiling is an abomination, what do you make of the last presidential election?
  • Ever noticed that for the past thirty years, we've been hearing we have less than ten years to save the planet?
  • Once a politician labels the truth as hate speech, can anyone trust him to speak the truth afterward?
  • If a politician gets elected by the poor on a promise to eliminate poverty, wouldn't fulfilling his promise destroy his voting base? Wouldn't he rather benefit from the growing numbers of poor people? Isn't this an obvious conflict of interests?
  • If all cultures are equal, why doesn't UNESCO organize International Cannibalism Week festivals?

If I was the author... I would be pretty embarrassed to ask such idiotic questions.

*yawn*

These aren't serious questions. These are a list of either falsities or strawmen --and I don't even really like liberalism. I like it better than conservatism, but this is so lazy and lame.

If anyone suffered "cognitive dissonance" or became "disoriented" by this nonsense...I'd be shocked. My reaction would have been laughter.

If anyone walked out never to come back...I doubt it was because of panic.

Seems to take a giant straw man, absolutist stance and assume anyone who wants greater equality wants to "destroy capitalism." And nobody has ever said that cultural acceptance means MUST ACCEPT ANY AND ALL BEHAVIOR.

LowDown, you weren't dumb enough to buy these questions' premises, were you?

How come it never occurs to libertarians that protesting some of the negative side effects of capitalism doesn't mean someone wants to end capitalism completely?

What the hell let's roll with the idiocy. I have a little time to kill.

Faced with foaming-at-the-mouth socialists who challenged him at his book signing session,
Of course, without any actually description of even a single actual criticism made, we really have no idea what challenge these "foaming at the mouth socialists" were raising. Given the questions, I have to assume the author is just a dip**** who had no idea what the challenge actually is.

Why weren't there demonstrations with anti-feudal slogans under feudal rule? And under Stalin, no anti-communist demonstrations? And under Hitler, no anti-fascist demonstrations? In a free capitalist society, anti-capitalist demonstrations are commonplace. Is capitalism really the worst system?
Well if there weren't demonstrations, everything must have been peachy! Or something. Of course, the author's implication is that there were protests and these were handled with some brutality which has a silencing effect. The author is trying to attribute freedom, and general enlightenment, to capitalism when personally I feel democracy is the bigger help here. I'd also point out that people criticizing capitalism aren't actually saying it's the worst system. They think it can be better.

I know, I know. Libertarians think any criticism of capitalism means you want to end capitalism. I suppose we should assume libertarians want to end all government, since they do criticize government.

If capitalism makes some people rich without making others poor, who will benefit when capitalism is destroyed?
Who the **** wants to destroy capitalism?
If the poor in America have things that people in other countries can only dream about, why is there a movement to make America more like those other countries?
Which countries do we want America to be more like? Is it North Korea? Because that's the one I see on facebook all the time. Right-wingers think we should be more like North Korea because they'll shoot you if you cross the border.

Why, on the rare occasions when Obama's actions benefit America, does his base get angry? And every time his actions are hurting this nation, his base is happy? Who exactly are these people?
Why do you beat you wife?

If cutting out the middleman lowers the price, why are we paying the government to stand between us and the markets?
Because sometimes not having a middleman literally kills you because sometimes a business decides killing you is more profitable.

If racial profiling is an abomination, what do you make of the last presidential election?
What on earth does this even mean? Elected a black man, therefore racial profiling is good? Or maybe he thinks it doesn't exist. Similarly, this one time a woman became CEO therefore sexists vanished instantly. Racism doesn't exist in America anymore, yay! Except for Obama of course, he's the real racist! I can't even begin to comprehend where this moron was going with this one.

Ever noticed that for the past thirty years, we've been hearing we have less than ten years to save the planet?
The media's job is, quite literally, to make something as exciting or as scary as possible. Because that's what sells advertising space. Don't let journalists paint pictures for you like that. Maybe our illustrious author will learn that some day. You'd think an ex-soviet convert would recognize the dangers of propaganda

Once a politician labels the truth as hate speech, can anyone trust him to speak the truth afterward?
"Labels the truth as hate speech" is dog whistle speak for "It's just not fair that people call me out for being an asshole boohoo why wont they leave me alone and let my opinion go unchallenged."

If a politician gets elected by the poor on a promise to eliminate poverty, wouldn't fulfilling his promise destroy his voting base? Wouldn't he rather benefit from the growing numbers of poor people? Isn't this an obvious conflict of interests?
If a politician actually managed to eliminate all poverty in a manner that's actually attributed to that individual, that person is getting re-elected in a landslide for life. Are you kidding me? How do you run against the guy whose campaign slogan is "Hey. I ended poverty." His constituency is now basically everybody.

If all cultures are equal, why doesn't UNESCO organize International Cannibalism Week festivals?
Ahh yes. People who promote cultural openness are really suggesting you must tolerate any and all crimes. Similarly, if you suggest we shouldn't tolerate cannibalism, you are promoting SINGLE, UNIFIED THINKING. ALL CITIZENS MUST CONFORM. Right? This is how the world works. Total black and white.

I thought the comments from the left were more entertaining than the questions themselves. And the questions were pretty good.

If I was the author... I would be pretty embarrassed to ask such idiotic questions.

I'm not even a social progressive, and I thought this guy was an idiot. I can only imagine what people with skin in that game must think. And, it's not a pretty image.

Two of those three were dictator govts, and the feudal system varied wildly, from a system that socialists would call utopia, to hell on earth depending on the rulers laws as well as the laws set forth by their local lords, like for example the difference between living good as a peasant and practical slave labor in england was whether you lived on the norther or southern side.

All three have had protests, while the fascists and socialist regimes stamped out protests before they could grow. Feudal govt's tried to, but they existed before the information age, the last two feudal countries I can think of were russia and germany, germany being a mix between capitalism and feudalism until around 150 years ago, and russia which was feudal until It became socialist.

Ah, more arguments against the imaginary liberals in your head.

Who has claimed that capitalism is "the worst system"?
  • If capitalism makes some people rich without making others poor, who will benefit when capitalism is destroyed? I think the argument of anti-capitalists is that it has made some people rich while making others poor.
  • If the poor in America have things that people in other countries can only dream about, why is there a movement to make America more like those other countries? Which countries, specifically?
  • Why, on the rare occasions when Obama's actions benefit America, does his base get angry? And every time his actions are hurting this nation, his base is happy? Who exactly are these people? Good question, since I haven't the foggiest idea who this guy is talking about.
  • If cutting out the middleman lowers the price, why are we paying the government to stand between us and the markets? Which markets, specifically?
  • If racial profiling is an abomination, what do you make of the last presidential election? I don't know what this means.
  • Ever noticed that for the past thirty years, we've been hearing we have less than ten years to save the planet? No.
  • Once a politician labels the truth as hate speech, can anyone trust him to speak the truth afterward? Which "truth" has been labeled as "hate speech" by a politician? Specific examples, please.
  • If a politician gets elected by the poor on a promise to eliminate poverty, wouldn't fulfilling his promise destroy his voting base? Wouldn't he rather benefit from the growing numbers of poor people? Isn't this an obvious conflict of interests? That's a really stupid question. If a politician manages (somehow) to lift people out of poverty, those people are more likely to vote for him in the future. What a farce this is.
  • If all cultures are equal, why doesn't UNESCO organize International Cannibalism Week festivals? Who is claiming that "all cultures are equal"?

Good Christ, this is a heap of intellectually lazy and dishonest bull feces.

The main fault of the questions is that they take progressives more seriously than they deserve.

Funny how all the nuance and qualifications disappear when progressives criticize others. Yes, it is total black and white by their lights. And heaps and heaps of false premises. As you caricature so shall ye be caricatured. Although I don't think many of these questions are as much a caricature as you'd have us believe.

On a sign seen being carried at a demonstration by a feminist on the occasion of mass rapes in Europe: "Will trade racists for rapists." So you see, it's impossible to exaggerate with these people. Who can say what is a caricature of them and what is not? In most cases one can't go far enough.
