GOP Interrupts Planned Parenthood President For 5 Hours

WASHINGTON -- House Republicans grilled Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards for five hours on Tuesday, and the conclusion was obvious: They wanted to do all the talking themselves.

The point of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing was to talk to Richards about the organization's use of federal funds. It went mostly like this: Republican asks question. Richards starts to respond, and Republican interrupts and asks question again. Richards starts to respond, and Republican interrupts and demands answer. Richards starts to respond, and the chairman, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), interrupts to move to next questioner.

Chaffetz set the tone by cutting off Richards all through his opening questions. He asked about an instance in which he said Planned Parenthood gave $200,000 to an advocacy group in 2013.

"I'm not familiar with that exact payment, but I'm happy to -- " Richards said before Chaffetz interrupted.

"Well, you gave them $200,000. If you don't know, you're running this organization," he said.

"Sir, I -- sir, I -- excuse me, sir," Richards said, trying to respond.

"No. Hold on," Chaffetz interrupted again. "No. No. Hold on." He talked through his question and eventually moved on to a new one.

You must not have ever seen a hearing in the past.

Oh, I've heard plenty of hearings, but it's hilarious, considering the GOP literally HAS NO EVIDENCE that PP is guilty of anything. :lamo

That's what the hearing is supposed to decide.

These hearing happen all the time. CEOs get grilled all the time. Even other politicians get grilled all the time. This one isn't the least bit special

Did you see the graph they used?
But look at the actual numbers in the graph. They show that in 2006, Planned Parenthood performed 2,007,371 anti-cancer services and 289,750 abortions. By 2013, the gap had closed slightly, but the group still performed many more anti-cancer services than abortions, 935,573 to 327,000.
Why does it seem otherwise? Because the “graph” has no y axis, which allows its creators to simply plot the results wherever they choose in order to create a compelling visual effect. That’s how 327,000 is made to look like a much larger number than 935,573.

Just one example showing the stupidity of this hearing and the hilarity of the witch hunt.

I recognize your willingness to focus on ideologically partisan and petty issues to promote the far left wing. That's what I recognized and have since you started posting on DP. There actually are real issues and many potential actual discussions which could take place.... you're view however is pointing out a chart missing a Y axis. Don't you want to actually want to make a post that's worth the time it takes to type it?

The chart is not missing the y axis, if it did it would be a straight line.

Other than murder and selling human parts for profit, nothing at all.

And I'm sure the American taxpayer don't mind clipping in $500,000,000 to help fill their coffers.

This constant interupting is the same technique used on the Fox network, particularly shows like Bill O'Reilly's, which of course is what the hearing's video is specifically designed for, and where it will end up (as well as in campaign ads).

These hearings are not about a search for truth, but rather are staging for partisan political video production - all on the taxpayer's dollar!

No one was murdered and the parts are better used by research then being burned as medical waste.

I find PP to be one of the best uses of my tax dollars in all of government. I don't mind filling those coffers.

Sure it did. We learned that over 86% of their revenue is derived from abortions and Cecile Richards, like her mentor Margret Sanger, doesn’t have an issue with abortions being done to target race and gender.
