Confederate Flags Placed On MLK Church Grounds - Terroristic Threat, or Harmless Prank ?

The confederate flag was a cherished symbol to Dylann Roof

The previous racial murders took place at a church

"Black lives matter" could either be seen as innocuous or as identifying targets

----------------------------

"Confederate battle flags were stealthily placed on the grounds of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s church, and authorities said Thursday they were looking for two white males who were recorded on surveillance camera leaving the banners behind.

Atlanta police Chief George Turner said his agency was working with federal authorities and they have not determined what charges might be levied. Turner said they have not ruled out a hate crime.

An officer from the Atlanta FBI’s joint terrorism task force was on the scene “to better determine if any specific threats were received” and to provide support to Atlanta police, FBI Special Agent Steve Emmett said in an e-mail.

The Rev. Raphael Warnock, senior pastor at Ebenezer, called placing the flags a “terroristic threat.”

“It is a hateful act,” he said. “I view it as an effort to intimidate us in some way, and we will not be intimidated.”

I guess this is what they get for the disfacing of our monuments. I have seen people on the Internet suggest doing stuff too their civil rights leaders status.

Are you saying you approve of this "terroristic" act ?

I say that because the purpose of this could be construed as intending to terrorize the congregation.

Re: Confederate Flags Placed On MLK Church Grounds - Terroristic Threat, or Harmless

One thing is for sure, it was an act of complete stupidity just begging for Police involvement and public scorn once they are caught.

(This is all over the news down here, and it is not pretty let me tell you.)

Seriously leaving a flag isn't a terrorist act stop with the emotional responses.... So do yo approve of vandalism of grave sites and memorials?

I bet it was a prank anyway at least we don't vandalize the Dr. King statues by writing things like white people matter....

IMHO, it's neither a harmless prank or a terrorist act. It is a hateful use of an otherwise non-hateful piece of cloth used by hateful people to show an unwarranted and hateful disrespect for a great man that is one of our country's modern era hero's.

Re: Confederate Flags Placed On MLK Church Grounds - Terroristic Threat, or Harmless

I don't approve of permanently defacing any monument.

It is not the same thing though.

The confederate flag was a prop, so to speak, in the murder of nine people at a black church. Now we see the flag left at another black church. Only an idiot would fail to see the possible implication of a threat.

It was not a prop or whatever just because the kid held it in his hand in the picture your based your response on your emotions. He burnt the American flag have a problem with that?

The kid held the confederate flag in one hand and the murder weapon in the other.

The selfies with the confederate flag became a big part of the story, whether you like it or not.

No. It wasn't. He was also pictured with the US flag as well on the same website. The guy was an idiot - he has a very low IQ and is a school dropout. Saying that he speaks for everyone that has that flag at their home or likes the flag for family reasons is like saying that the black kids that attack people for no reason in the "knock-out game" represent all black people.

We do not need to give the hateful people, of any skin hue, the legitimacy that they crave, but do not deserve.

Martin Luther King, Jr.'s memory and what he accomplished cannot and will not be diminished by some idiot putting flags on the law of his church.

Do we know who did it? Was it white people for sure?

Neither the state I was born and raised in, nor the state I currently reside in, were even US territories at the time of the Civil War. I think you east-coasters need to get your poop in a group and grow up a little. We have real issues facing America and this isn't one of them.

Re: Confederate Flags Placed On MLK Church Grounds - Terroristic Threat, or Harmless

Monuments to Confederate war dead and to Martin Luther King are all equal in one aspect. They all suffer from the same malady, bird poop.

Thank you for the directions. I think I'll just leave it as is though, with the explanation I gave in #2. The link works.

Who's banning flags again? Or could this be the one millionth and therefore, prize winning repetition of this strawman on DP alone?

Um your a moron son....
House scraps vote on Confederate flag in federal cemeteries - Yahoo News

Yeah that's sound like not giving confederate soldiers the right to have a proper burial. With flag honors and all which according to an act of congress were given U.S veteran status.

No but you aren't changing my opinion....

Ma'am, whether or not he took a selfie with the confederate flag in one hand and the murder weapon in the other is not an opinion.

Yep.

Calling it a harmless prank minimizes it. Calling it terrorism is hyperbolic and is a misuse of the term.

Why people would go to either extreme is beyond me.
