Liberals Trash 'American Sniper'...anyone surprised?

When "the enemy" does X, we condemn them. When "we" do X, we praise them. I would think this sort of contradictory logic plays out in most societies.
When their team interceptes the ball, I curse. When my team interceptes the ball, I cheer. There's no contradiction in that.

What the left hates:
Guns.
Military.
Patriots.

So you see, its spot on. :2wave:

What the right does:

Dishonest about what the left likes or dislikes.
Overgeneralizes the left.
Makes stupid statements in lieu of debate since they can't debate.

See? Dishonest as I showed you.

Me thinks you are angry the left can be read like an open book.

Methinks you are upset that I nailed you and the right to a tee. It wasn't hard. Everyone can do it. You all make it so obvious.

There's no contradiction in that because you're being honest about the fact that it's about your team. When people argue that the violence displayed by their enemy is "immoral" when they display the same violence, it is a contradiction. In the football analogy, it would be equivalent to saying "Their team is full of cowards because they always commit personal fouls, but my team is heroic because they commit personal fouls."

I think that's a fair statment and I agree.

I'm about as surprised as I was when conservatives bashed Day After Tomarrow.
Wait...Day After Tomorrow blew dogs. It didnt matter if you were 'Conservative' or 'Liberal'.

I fully intend to go see that movie in a few days and I will give you all an unbiased and analytical opinion.

It absolutely needn't be a passive process. Helping secular movements take hold in the Middle East, expanding education and human rights, and pulling those countries into the modern era are all things that we can do. Jihadists will disappear once their own societies no longer tolerate them.
I look forward to the video of your pacifist response to ISIS and the great gains you and people like you will make in bringing about peace. You should start packing at once. Times a wasting! Make sure they include raw video footage in the cinema version. Hell...thats a movie I'd pay to see twice.

The American Sniper is a huge success because it is a well-made, exciting action movie.

This does not attest to the historical accuracy of the movie, its bias, and its blatant status as propaganda.

It is kind of odd to see a right-wing propaganda film instead of a left-wing one, though.

It did, but that's not why it was subject to right-wing attacks.

To be honest, I didnt pay attention to it to know about 'right wing attacks' but I can certainly see how some right wing groups would attack a 'movie' that is essentially parrots propaganda and fear mongering over 'global warming'. And if we are being REALLY honest, a lot of liberals probably trashed the movie for the exact same reason. And if they didnt...they should have.

I'm waiting for it to hit the torrents. I have a heavy bias towards accuracy when it comes to war movies so I suspect I won't like it. If, for example, the sniper calls in an air strike and gets the 9-line wrong, movie's over, thumbs down  In the preview, the woman hands a child a modified artillery shell. The sniper calls it a grenade, but that's not a grenade, that's an IED (Improvised Explosive Device), so right off the bat the movie isn't doing so good in my eyes.

I literally couldn't sit through Unstoppable because I know how air-brakes work and that ruined the whole premise of the movie. I hate Star Wars space battles because the X-Wing runs off of 4 ramjet engines and ramjets can't work in space. I need a movie to either cling to the real word or shed all pretense of being real in the slightest, and that's why I like Star Trek over Star Wars, it's totally fake top to bottom. Also because Jar-Jar Binks.

My opinion of the movie American Sniper: STOP CALLING YOUR WIFE WHILE YOU'RE IN THE FIELD FFS!!

The review of this movie in RT, written by John Wight, says it is crapola, and that Eastwood and Kyle both exemplify the old saying that patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel. I like Eastwood, but maybe he's just getting a bit too gullible in his old age as his moral compass begins to spin.

Wight says the movie destroys history and creates myth. Sounds like Zero Dark Thirty too.

I didn't think the movie was drenched in patriotism. You see it in the main character at the beginning, and a lot at the end as the movie uses real footage of the funeral of the person the movie is based on, but other than that it's just a war movie.

Right. It's the whole package that is presented as patriotism. It is portrayed in the media as a patriot in action. It is presented that taking out Iraqis in their own country is a patriotic endeavor.

It shows the other side of that, too, of soldiers who want nothing to do with Iraq.

Yeah, the patriotism thing is what I've heard about it and since Eastwood came out of the closet as a right-winger I'm worried about the picture. The old WWII movies were great, but that was a different time.

There is no sound when things explode is space. All space movies are now ruined for you.

Unless we're talking about something like Guardians of the Galaxy where we're already surrendering so many other laws of physics. If the movie's going to pretend to be real, then it needs to cling to real, but if it's tossing out any pretense of actually being possible then artistic license to play god is just fine.
