The seething hate the Republicans have for President Obama is incredible, they are a bunch of hypocrites. In 2005, George W. Bush appointed a bird flu czar who had no medical experience or expertise in public health, but who did enjoy a noted career as a Republican political insider.

Fox News continues to lead the conservative attack on Ron Klain, whom President Obama appointed as the administration's Ebola coordinator, termed by some a "czar," to help direct the government's response to the rare virus and its arrival in Dallas, Texas.

After days of demanding White House action on the issue (such as appointing a czar), conservatives, led by Republican Party leaders, immediately criticized the choice of Klain. Why? Because he has no medical background and because he's enjoyed a career as Democratic political insider, working as chief of staff for both former Vice President Al Gore and current Vice President Joe Biden.

On the recent Sunday morning talk shows, Republicans made sure to hammer their objections:

"We were hopeful we were going to have someone who had the experience, not only from the medical community, but in emergency response," Republican Marsha Blackburn said on "Face the Nation."

And from Sen. Ted Cruz:

"Mr. Klain is not a doctor, he's not a health care professional, he doesn't have background in these issues," the Texas Republican said on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday.

At least we now know why the GOP insisted on a Ebola Czar.....so they could hate him. They are getting so predicable.
It looks like his term might be short lived....there are no new cases in the U.S. It appears to be over before it got started.

Mel Robbins, a CNN commentator and legal analyst, has given it a name: Fear-bola.

"Fear-bola attacks the part of the brain responsible for rational thinking," she says. "It starts with a low-grade concern about the two health care workers diagnosed with Ebola in Dallas and slowly builds into fear of a widespread epidemic in the United States."

Conservatives Didn't Care When Bush's Bird Flu Czar Was No Doctor

no, they didn't. they only care now because they find it to be a convenient partisan weapon.

in other news, the anti-war movement has withered away to almost nothing, even though we maintain the constant state of war that everyone now looks at as "normal." the reason? a Democrat is in office.

any partisan claiming innocence of hypocrisy is not being honest.

I didn't care then and I don't care now.

Nobody has the title "Czar", it's a term used by the media.

So then what was the point of Media Matters commenting on it?

By the way, you're correct - he was never a "Bird Fu Czar". In fact, he wasn't selected by Bush as anything, as I recall. Tommy Thompson brought him to HHS with him - he had already been working with Thompson. It seems to be like Media Matters is comparing apples to oranges here.

Here we have ANOTHER BS ARTICLE by Media Matters. Let me count the ways...

The headline stated that "conservative media" has a problem with him "not being a doctor": This was confirmed both in the second paragraph of the story. They also linked to a story in support of their claim, and that headline read "Appointment Of Ron Klain As Ebola "Czar" Draws The Wrath Of Conservative Media" Here's what I found:

a) From both the MM article, and the article they linked to, they only cite quotes taken from two main stream media outlets and they were CBS and CNN... Hardly what I would call "conservative media".
b) Of the 7 instances they cited as critical of the new czar, (5 tweets and 2 on radio) only 1 quote they presented criticized the man because he wasn't a doctor, and that was a tweet, not something said on the air. Of the others, 4 criticized him because of his politics, 1 just said the Administration has "given up" and the other used whether he was a doctor to criticize his politics.
c) The very first line of their story says "Fox News continues to lead the conservative attack on Ron Klain", but they did not cite one example of criticism that came from Fox News... NOT ONE...
d) Of the 2 Republican politicians they quoted only 1 (Ted Cruz) could be seen as criticism, and neither one of those quotes came from the "conservative media". One came from CNN's "State of the Union" and the other from "Face the Nation" on CBS.

What Media Matters claims in their headline, as well in the story itself, was not backed up by the the evidence they presented... Nearly all of the criticism for the new czar is based on his politics, not on him not being a doctor as MM asserts. The biggest unsubstantiated claim MM made was that first line in their story which said "Fox News continues to lead the conservative attack on Ron Klain". They didn't present 1 piece of evidence to support that attack.

You have been duped again Pete... We'll see you in a few days when you post another dishonest attack piece from those clowns.

I think you should examine that link again, I see Rush Limbaugh, Fox's Geraldo Rivera, Ben Ferguson, ABC's Laura Ingraham, ABC's Laura Ingraham, NRA News' Cameron Gray, RedState Editor mentioned.

I wasn't duped Grim.

Appointment Of Ron Klain As Ebola "Czar" Draws The Wrath Of Conservative Media | Research | Media Matters for America

Of course they didnt. The only thing the care about is the word "czar". Why? Because they need cheap, simple buzzwords to get behind their outrage machines.

When did he have the title "Bird Flu Czar"?

He didn't - it was a talking point made up by progressives like Media Matters. Stewart Simonson is the person who was part of HHS.

There's a slight difference though Klain was added specifically to handle Ebola - Simonson had a job already and there was no appointment. If I remember correctly the anxiety about bird flu wasn't quite as high as Ebola. Media Matters called for Simonson's removal because he didn't have a background in medicine. Funny how they're not doing that with Klain.

That's not true, Media Matters doesn't call for removals of people from government jobs.

Hey, so, who in this thread was upset when we all found out that "Brownie" running FEMA was a horse show judge?

<-- Cause I was. Liberals out there? How say you?

He had more experience that Obama's insider that was a lawyer for Gore in Florida recount

From your link

In 2004, Bush's bird flu czar was Stewart Simonson. He worked as an assistant secretary of health and human services for public health emergency preparedness

Appointment Of Ron Klain As Ebola "Czar" Draws The Wrath Of Conservative Media | Research | Media Matters for America

Did you not see this:

b) Of the 7 instances they cited as critical of the new czar, (5 tweets and 2 on radio)

They made 3 claims...
1. "Conservative media"
2. Critisism over him not being a doctor.
3. Fox News leads the charge.

Geraldo Rivera 1) isn't a conservative and 2) didn't say anything on the air, he made a tweet.
1, 2 and 3 FALSE

Ben Ferguson (who ever he is) didn't say anything on the air, he made a tweet.
1 2, and 3 FALSE

Cameron Gray 1) isn't part of the conservative media and 2) didn't say anything on the air, he made a tweet.
1, 2 and 3 FALSE

Dan McLaughlin 1) is a blogger and 2) didn't say anything on the air, he made a tweet.
1, 2 and 3 FALSE

Laura Ingraham is a conservative pundit who critisized him as a political hack on her radio show, not about not being a doctor,
2 and 3 FALSE

Rush Limbaugh is a conservative pundit who critisized him as a political hack on his radio show, not about not being a doctor.
2 and 3 FALSE

I'm sorry, but 2 political radio talk shows do not qualify as the "Conservative media".
Media Matters exaggeration

I'm sorry, but tweets do not qualify as "conservative media" or any "media" at all..
Media Matters BS.

The first line in their story says "Fox News continues to lead the conservative attack on Ron Klain". Please show me 1 example they provided that substanciates that claim? You can't Pete. because there aren't any.
Media Matters false attack

How many quotes of the conservative media attacking the man because he wasn't a doctor, did Media Matters provide? They provided 1... And it was a tweet by a radio talk show host.
Media Matters phony outrage designed to fool their readers into believeing something that isn't true.

Oh yes Pete... You most definitely were duped.

Come on Pete... Two conservative talk show hosts, none of which critisized the man because he was not a doctor, and that's all they've got?

Explain "Fox News continues to lead the conservative attack on Ron Klain", when they provided nothing what so ever that came from Fox News?

Explain why they filled nearly their entire page with personal tweets, which is NOT the conservative media?

Explain why nearly every example they gave, did NOT substantiate their claim that the criticism was based on him not being a doctor?

The truth is, there is no explaination for any of those things and you damned well know it. Why don't you just admit what every single rational person on this forum knows... That you were duped once again by Media Matters, just like you always are, and just like you will be again when you foolishly post another one of their ficticious attack pieces. Do what's left of your credibility a favor and walk away from those lying, partisan clowns and try reading something that's based on the truth for a change.

In typical partisan fashion, that's only half the question. While it may be true that conservatives didn't criticize Bush, the other relevent half of the question is: Did the liberals?

If the liberals did not criticize Bush, then you'd have a point.

If the liberals did criticize Bush, and are not now criticizing Obama, then the liberals are no less hypocritical.

I wonder why Obama's Media Matters liaison didn't tell him about this so he could make a better pick for Ebola czar.
