I joined the Libertarian Party a few years back. I was disgusted and fed up with the Republican Party for years now - and I still am.
However, in light of the recent election results - I have had an epiphany. I am leaving the Libertarian Party and identifying myself with the Republican Party, once again.
Why the hell would I do that?
The reason I'm choosing this path at this point in my life, is that I feel the GOP is in big trouble. The fringe has overtaken the party that I identified with for years and I just don't feel as though I can sit idly by and do nothing about it.
The only way that I can feel good about myself, is to re-join the party and try and work from within, to help get things back to what they once were. I am only one small person, but I truly feel as though the moderates of the Republican Party need to step up to the plate and demand that the party pull their heads out.
I can no longer stay with the Libertarian Party at this point. Not because I don't believe what they are trying to do. It's because at this point in the 'game', I feel action needs to be taken and I really just don't feel like the LP is where they need to be. That is NOT to say that I won't at some point realign myself with the LP. It's just that I think the only way to get things to change is to be an active and influential voice inside the GOP and assist in getting moderate Republicans coming back to the party AND helping to work from within the GOP to assist in opening up the political spectrum to third parties.
I don't want to leave a legacy for my children and my future grandchildren that says that while the country went down the ****ter, I just sat idly by and did nothing.
Lead by example.
