I have never heard of someone called a Communist because they asked why the poor had no food.

    I live and learn.
Dom Hélder Pessoa Câmara (February 7, 1909, Fortaleza, Ceará, North East Brazil – August 27, 1999 Recife) was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Olinda and Recife.
He was known as the 'Bishop of Corum' and took a clear position with the urban poor.[1]
In 1959 he founded Banco da Providência in Rio de Janeiro, a philanthropic organization that still exists fighting poverty and social injustices.
He is famous for stating, "When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why they are poor, they call me a communist."[2]

Being called a Communist is not necessarily an insult, is it? It's a political philosophy.

Re: Poignant Question - Hunger- Saint vs Communist

jeez today its food, tommorow its gonna be water and clothes, pretty soon they are gonna demand we stop throwing out carboard boxes so they have somewhere to live!!!!!!!!!:roll

truthfully though food stamps are a joke,no decent family could feed themselves right on that, however most poor people i have known have gone to the churches(not the fried chicken restaurant)and gotten free food.most churches take all kinds of food donations just for the purpose of feeding the poor.there are also many food drives, soup kitchens, and other charities to help already, plus government food stamps as well, combined there shouldnt be any poor people without food.

but then again a state like california for example, has alot of homeless people, yet the states offer help and many dont take it.alot of it has to do with the fact many of the poorest people in the country are either mentally incapable or ignorant to a level in which they cant even apply for assistance.many are war vets who are homeless are on a degree of insanity, which playsa heavy facvtor of both their inability to care for themselves or seek help.

outside the modernized world poverty and starvation usually exists from weak and corrupt governments combined with warring factions stealing food.

Maybe so, but this was in Brazil, not America.
