So my wife showed me a picture on her phone that said in the caption, "Someday I hope to be able to afford an iPhone like the woman using food stamps in front of me." Before I was married I actually thought the same thing. This is something that to me, shows the glaring inefficiencies in our current welfare system as these abuses happen constantly. I wouldn't go so far as to say it is very prevalent though. In my experience the woman was using an iPhone, wearing brand new Nikes, obviously just got her hair done, and here I am with my wife (fiance at the time) behind her with holes in my shoes, no cell phone, and working 60 hours a week and still can't keep up. I'm well paid and since, we both have all kinds of useless crap but my point is, is we worked for it. This woman did not.
I will say, that if we close these gaps it needs to be from top to bottom. Social and corporate welfare reform is greatly needed. Something I do not see our current president doing as his legacy will be defined by getting the healthcare act through and keeping us on top. What say you people?
