... and this is someone who teaches our children

If a parent feels it's wrong, they have every right in the world to express that to the school. You know, freedom of speech? It's up to the school to determine if that warrants firing or not.

She teaches our children for christ's sake! Do you want your children taught to hate Jews or anyone else for that matter? And don't give me that "well, as long as she doesn't express that in the class room..." line of crap... That would only be a valid argument if the schools had someone there in the classroom to monitor what the teacher said. Since they don't, we have to trust that she wouldn't have expressed her bigotry, and when it comes to forming the views and thoughts of our kids, that is a chance we can't afford to take.

Oops... Guess I spoke too soon... Geez

Thats why we talk to our children about what they are being taught, thats why we have to be an integral part of our childs education, thats why if I found out a teacher was teaching those sorts of things in class my child wouldnt be in her class any longer.... You cant fire someone for someting that "could" be said, but you can most definitely fire someone for something that *is* said.

as far as your question about would I want my child to be taught to hate? Of course not...and I do everything in my power as a parent and a role model to make sure that doesnt happen. And if I found out a teacher at my childs school was teaching that sort of hatred, you can bet the entire school district and beyond would know my name and my child would promptly be taken out of that class, that school if needed.

and I dont believe I ever said that it wasnt right for a parent to let the school know how they feel about a situation... it most certainly is right and proper to do so.

Nothing to say about the fact that this woman teaches our children huh... What a fricking shock!!!

Which must mean that all teachers are like this! :lamo

Actually, if a parent feels it's wrong, they should be able to call up their current school, talk to customer service, and cancel their account. Then they could choose a school they felt was better suited to teaching their children and take their business to that school. The teacher doesn't get fired; the school gets fired. By the paying customer.

So, please clarify what you meant when you wrote: ... and the leftists come out of the wood-work to defend this bigot. How lovely. Is that your way of saying we're bigots?

No Pete, it's my way of saying that once again, ideology trumps right and wrong.

Even people who don't have kids at school pay.

If there were cameras in class rooms and teachers were being monitored, I would support your position 100%... Since there aren't, we can't take the chance and allow people like her to teach our children. Hate and bigotry voiced by people in America is something we all have to live with, but knowingly giving those people the opportunity to spread that hate to our children, is irresponsible and wrong.

It's really disappointing to me, that people like yourself can't see that.

Well Grim, I'm glad I don't live in an America that you think it should become.

Ah, yes, the student-as-consumer perception. Very trendy...right now.

I haven't thought through an opinion, and I also haven't rewatched the clip since last night. Was the school district wrong, or did it overreact? After she stated her name, this Patricia-Somebody said that she was representing [only] herself and then volunteered in the same sentence that she was a teacher for the Los Angeles school district. That's a fact. Another fact is that she did say that Zionist Jews should be run out of the country.

If she really was acting as a private citizen should she have identified the school district? Should anybody protesting necessarily identify his or her employer while going about personal business (much less happily spouting extremist rhetoric)? Is this appropriate? Could she not have simply said, "I am a teacher"?

Is there a difference between being a chiropractor and a teacher? Are the rules different for teachers? Historically, the answer is yes.

Do you think actually making a million threads posting this crap makes any kind of point?

I think it makes several points, on several different issues. I happen to be a pretty conservative libertarian. (Matter of fact, in terms of the economy, my views are right in line with the most conservative of Republicans). But I don't think this video is indicative of mainstream liberal views.

One point is that there are nutcases at each end of the political spectrum.

Another point is that there are a lot of stupid people in this country.

Another point is that this minority woman is making racist statements. Not religious bigotry, but racism. She called them Zionist Jews. WTF is that?

I don't know if the author of the thread intended to portray this as mainstream liberalism or not... because I don't believe it is, but it actually makes a lot of points.

Of course it isn't... This woman is a bigot who was teaching our children, and that was my only point.

Because we're all well accustomed to your faux-outrage.

If this were someone at a TP event saying "Obama is a Muslim who was born in Kenya" you would have nothing to say.

Secondly, I've already posted about Conservative bloggers painting OWS as an anti-semitic thing. With the same proof that the TP is racist. You're just taking this video from one of them and reposting it. Apparently the "anti-semitic" thing didn't stick, so now it's "Liberals are teaching our kids (to be anti-semitic)."

Really? Then why was the woman fired?

You're right... That's because even though such a belief is misguided, it isn't racial hatred, anti-Semitism or bigotry. Even if they did say something that was classify as bigotry or hatred, as long as they're not a school teacher, it wouldn't mean squat to me.

I was the one who originally posted that video on this forum, and I'm sorry you can't come to grips with the daily examples of anti-Semitism at the OWS protests.

You either support the kids and this teacher being fired, or you support the hatred and bigotry of this woman, and don't care who in the hell teaches our children... It's just that simple.

Explain how a person's personal political, religious, and ideological views affect how they do their job?

And if your only weak response is, "Explain why this person lost their job", then in weeks time or so, I'll ask YOU how come this person is filthy stinking rich from a law suit, then.

That is a nice false dichotomy you have set up there. Personally, I find her views toward Jews reprehensible and pathetic. And yet on just that video alone I do not think there is enough to merit firing her for comments she made outside of the classroom. Unless she allowed her views to frequently seep into what she was teaching to her students, and I will readily admit that this is likely, the school district probably acted a little too hastily for my taste. Despite that, I have no real problem with the school district firing her given that they should have a clearer picture of her abilities as a teacher than we do.

As long as we are discussing teachers that are making bigoted and hateful comments, when are you going to condemn Viki Knox for her comments?

Not racial? So people think Obama was born in Kenya because....And anti-semitism is worse than islamophobia because....???

I can come to grips with it. When Cons come to grips with examples of racism at TP protests. The proof is exactly the same. The only thing that's different is your political sympathy for one group.

I don't care who posted it "on this forum" first. You only heard about it from Con blogs. Probably Breitbart or the MRC. I'd already seen this. BTW, one of the signs described as anti-semitic was held by a Jewish kid. From the PJ Tatler:

aaa.jpg

“It’s Yom Kippur: Banks should atone!” Hmmmm…why would the banks and bankers engage in a Jewish ritual practice (atonement on Yom Kippur) if they weren’t Jewish? Again, we return to the “Jewish bankers” theme.
UPDATE: Turns out this particular sign is being held by a Jewish protester, so its intent was probably not meant to be anti-Semitic — though it could easily be misinterpreted, and as such was very ill-considered. The sign-holder is in no way visible in the photo, so their gender/age/religion/name was unknown to me. I did not identify the sign-holder in the caption nor depict them in a photo, and out of respect will continue refraining from doing so.

The PJ Tatler » More Anti-Semitism at Occupy Los Angeles

As I said. Admit that racists come to TP events, and I'll gladly admit that some of the signs are anti-semitic. Since that won't happen....

Ah, yes, the student-as-consumer perception. Very trendy...right now.

Trendy? I wouldn't know. But it would seem that parents might want to control who is educating their children in the same way they might want to control who gives them guitar or karate lessons. I am an advocate for giving people as much choice as possible. Actually, that proposition seems downright un-trendy these days.

It makes two points actually. First point is who's teaching our kids. Second point is you libs want to turn a blind eye to who's teaching our kids or you endorse what they say.

The facts are that you have no idea what this woman was teaching the children, since she was a substitute teacher probably not all that much. She should be judged on what she does in her class, not what YOU perceive she is doing. We don't live in Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia or the period in the U.S. when those on the left were perceived as communists.

Do you actually want to live in a world where virtually everyone has a camera and produce videos and presented to your employer of some of your worst words?

I think what this woman said was awful, however I think she should be judged by what she teaches the kids.

What she says is what she thinks and who she is. The fact you defend her speaks volumes.Would you be OK with a KKK teacher as long as they didn't actually teach KKK doctrine? Somehow I doubt it but you give this freak lots of slack. Like I said, maybe you agree.

Yes, I would. If said KKK member taught one hell of a math class, and didn;t let their KKK beliefs interfere with their course lessons, I would have NO problems what so ever. Everyone is intitled to their own opinion, bub.

BS! If a KKK member tried to teach in public schools the outcry would be deafening and rightfully so. Jew bashing on the other hand seems very acceptable to libs these days, fashionable even.

This lady is a school teacher who was interviewed at the L.A. OWS protest:

“I think that the Zionist Jews, who are running these big banks and our Federal Reserve, which is not run by the federal government… they need to be run out of this country.”

My God people...

Some points to make:
1) One person does not represent the whole movement. Although I am against OWS too, this is simply ridiculous. It's like taking Hitler and claiming that he represents the whole of the German people. A very fallacious argument
2) The same thing about teachers apply to the first point. You're overgeneralizing when you make it out like she's representing the whole of the US educational system
3) I can't think of what your point is about, other than "Those OWS protestors are all idiots!" and "Those socialist teachers should all be wiped out!"

That wasn't me wearing a mask in that interview... I don't give a damn that you like insulting me every chance you get, but what that school teacher said should concern you... unless of course you are in agreement with her, or think anti-semitism should be taught to American school children.
Why don't we create a thread were all sides can post ridiculous Youtube videos and everyone is required to comment/disclaim the remarks from those on their own side or else be banned from further debate? That seems like it would be a good use of time.
