The National Security Agency located in Fort Meade, Maryland is responsible for the data mining of virtually all global communications sources, both domestic and foreign. In fiscal year 2007, the NSA had an estimated budget of 8 billion dollars. There are around 60,000 contractors who work in the NSA complex. About a mile from Fort Meade is a huge enclosed business park. Each building houses the corporate satellite offices of dozens of communications/security conglomerates who supply software, hardware, and manpower to the NSA. The NSA complex itself consumes more electricity per day than the entire nearby city of Annapolis.
