This came up as I was flipping through stations today, and it was an interesting question. What is the point of still keeping PBS going? We have hundreds of channels now, with undoubtedly there being a channel out there that could pick up any and every nation wide PBS show that's got any worth to it. What is a reason for keeping it?

I have wondered for a long time why PBS and NPR still receive tax funds.
They have proven that they can exist on the contributions they get from their listeners. I listen to NPR daily and occasionally watch something on PBS but I'd like to see them removed from the public purse. Money is too short to spend even a little where there is no need..
