Arby's takes a stab at venison sandwiches in select locations

Fast-food chain Arby’s will begin testing venison sandwiches in select markets by the end of the month, the company announced Tuesday.Arby's venison sandwich features a thick-cut venison steak and crispy onions with a berry sauce on a toasted roll, according to the company.
The venison sandwich is "100% deer meat," with premium cut top and bottom round steaks from the hind quarter of the deer, according to Rob Lynch, Arby’s Brand President & Chief Marketing Officer.

I'm a little leery of a "fast food" venison sandwich.

If this was available in my area I think I'd wait a while and see how others think it tastes.

It's real REAL easy to over-cook venison and dry it out since it's usually extremely lean.

Good for Arby's for trying it though. Will be interesting to see if it works out.

I'm not impressed with their normal meats so, venison...maybe not.

In my experience, the thicker the venison the better the cook needs to be. For every 1/4 of an inch thicker, the "better" part needs to increase by orders of magnitude.

Arby's, in my opinion would be much better off selling a "chipped venison steak" steak sandwich.
Much easier to make in a fast food version without requiring the cook to be exceptional.

An Arbys is next door to a McDonalds near by and the Arbys is almost always empty while McDonalds is crowded always.

A little leery? It's like getting sushi at the gas station! Just don't do it.

:agree:

Our town just had our Halloween Beggar's Night this evening, and it was a "yuge" success - I was afraid I was going to run out of candy! There were a couple of teenagers that were accompanying little kids, and I gave them candy bars too. One told me that last year people told her she was "too old to go begging," but I explained that I didn't think anyone was ever too old for chocolate! I got a hug for that! Win-win! :lamo

WHAT??? Why tonight? On Thursday the 27th? Do you still do regular Halloween on the 31st?

I'm so confused.

Greetings, Dragonfly. :2wave:

When our City Council makes a decision, it's not likely to change, since time has always moved faster than changing anything we've gotten used to around here, and we do get to vote yes or no on things!. We are a small town....

We've had Beggar's Night on the Fourth Thursday of October for years and years, and Heaven Help the "idiot" who tries to change it! They'll probably run him out of town - after tarring and feathering him for his shameless chutzpah, of course! :lamo All in all, we generally know what to expect, though, and people like that, and they totally support the "hometown" businesses here.

Arby's: Technically it's food.

(Jon Stewart anyone? :))

Agreed - to this day I think what they keep calling BEEF is far closer to baloney.

I thought commercially sold venison was against the law...

What about venison jerky? There is a company here in Michigan who makes the stuff and I swear its better than a dry aged steak.

No way. Hate rare/med red meat in the first place, and since every order of fries I've ever had from an Arby's was literally rancid (they never seem to change the cooking oil), I haven't been to one in more than ten years.

Arby's: Bringing Washington-style gridlock to your colon.

Jon Stewart reference.

Oh God no.

This is another place where Americans are eating food of far lower quality than was seen in the hayday of fast food, the 70's and 80's, but very few people act like they know.

I go maybe once a year, trying to get my memory going on how good it used to be.

Though they were never as good as Beef-a-Roo in Rockford Il.

Their prices are higher than the big 3 (Wendy's, McDonalds, Burger King) because they think they are more special.

I swear sticking with high fat pretty tasty curly fries and having a nice selection of complimentary sauces is the only thing that have going for them.

That is not good enough to get me down memory lane more than once a year.

Their potato cakes are pretty good.
