Best salad I've had in years was a Chicken Caesar Salad at a restaurant in Disney World in Orlando.

It had the right amount of everything I love in a Chicken Caesar.

At home we have salads for dinner at least once a week. Mixes if iceberg lettuce for the crunch, and romaine. Croutons. Shredded cheese. Shredded carrots.
Sometimes turkey. Sometimes chicken. Sometimes tuna salad. Sometimes no meats at all. Fresh tomatoes. Sometimes some almond shavings.

I like a basic Italian dressing. Sometimes I love Blue Cheese. Sometimes just Thousand Island or French.

I like raw mushrooms on there too.

But damn, that Chicken Caesar salad I had in Orlando was out-of-this-world delicious.

As a kid I recall going to this one place where they'd bring the salad to the table in a small wooden wheelbarrow. It was an entire head of iceberg lettuce simply cut into quarters. Around it was some cherry tomatoes and croutons. They'd bring a fixture that held 4 different kinds of dressings that you could chose from.
It was so simple, yet so refreshing and delicious. 40 years later I can still remember it vividly.

What's your favorite salad? Or salads?

Having moved permanently overseas, I do miss the taste of ranch dressing. Just a simple salad of lettuce, sliced tomatoes, bacon bits, croutons and ranch will be good enough for me.

I am a big salad consumer

I love anything green in it as a base so I would start with combos of: kale, iceberg, romaine, spinach, field greens

then choosing a few items from each group depending upon mood and what I have in the fridge i will combine:

- hemp hearts, chia seeds, walnuts, almond slivers, pumpkin seeds,

- crushed eggs, cheese, (frequently both) tuna or chicken pieces for protein

then choose my veggies: cucumber, celery, grated carrot, sweet peppers, sliced cherry tomatoes, sometimes finely chopped green onion or diced red onion, finely chopped cauliflower

for dressing I like to combine various vinegars with various flavours of olive oil

examples of those flavours are cherry, garlic, fig, so many choices and combos that taste amazing...3/4 oil to 1/4 vinegar, shake in a jar...amazing

We eat a lot of salad made in many different ways. Typically I would make the dressing myself with some type of cheese and or fried or grilled meat added on top.

I have found that the foods you miss depend very much on the place you live. In London I had almost everything I wanted. In Cologne or Florence this was not at all the case. But the compensation by regional foods is worth it over all.

I love the Blue Cheese pecan chop salad from Outback steakhouse.

Almost any. Love salads. But NO olives, ever.

Crab/artichoke salad (being from California's central coast) is a big fave.

I always eat what the locals have in my travels, and they're usually pretty good. But one does miss the food that one grew up with once in awhile- thats why they call it comfort food.
