Is simpler better? Less is more?

I'm seeking a great winter time Crock-pot/slow cooker pulled pork recipe.

Cut of meat? Shoulder? Butt? Tenderloin?
Additions to pot? Onions? Peppers? Bacon?
BBQ sauce? Bottled? Home made? Sweet Baby Ray's? Flavor?

Everything. Tell me how you love it most. (from a crock pot)

Thanks.

Garlands Secret Six BBQ sauce
Siracha either regular or garlic
Italian seasoning
onion
cinnamon
coffee dehydrated with about a half cup water. Strong fresh brewed works as well.
garlic
pork with about 20% fat seared on all sides. Preferably with bone.

Throw into crock pot everything on low for 4 to 6 hours. Make sure to NOT render all of fat out of the pork. You need it to keep pork tender. Pull from heat once the pork is either able to pull apart easily or pulls from the bone easily. I normally at this point set the pot to warm pull the bones and shred the pork for serving in the pot mixing up all the sauce and the ingredients. Enjoy with your favorite sides or as a sandwich.

Just get a pork butt toss in the crock pot until done. Then mix with your favorite BBQ sauce and serve with onions and pickles on a hawaiian sweet roll

Simple. You put water in with pork butt? Or some other liquid? There has to be a liquid in there.

Yeah fill to about half way up the pork butt with distilled water

Cinnamon?
Coffee?

I like the sound of the coffee. Not sure about cinnamon.

You cook for long periods of time with the BBQ sauce on it that whole time?

Most recipes I see call for not adding BBQ sauce until after the pork is shredded and pot set to warm.

I think I've seen recipes with chicken stock added as the liquid. Not sure why chicken stock would work well with pork, but who knows. That's partly why I'm asking.

I don't. Use a Boston Butt, a simple spice rub, no need to put any liquid in a crock pot on low.

It doesn't dry out without a liquid in there????

Nope. With such low heat the fat renders creating moisture in the pot, while still not being hot enough to dry it out.

But if you do want a liquid: a can of Dr. Pepper, (NOT diet) and reduce or omit any sugar in the rub.

Pulled pork hasn't caught on over yet but it deserves to.

Dr. Pepper and pork go wonderfully together. For ribs, I dry rub them, wrap them in heavy duty foil, let sit for a day, pour a can of Dr. Pepper in the foil packet, braise for a couple of hours, then finish on the grill.

How sweet does it make the final product?

My favorite pulled pork dish right now is a spicy pulled pork with coleslaw in a soft taco shell.

Yep on the BBQ sauce, it allows the flavors to blend and is part of the liquid in the pot. Cinnamon is used in Mexican cooking and complements the coffee. Its not absolutely necessary I just prefer it in this recipe.

The chicken stock enhances the pork flavor and is a way to season the pork without directly adding salt. A trick I stole from my sister to enhance the flavor or season of dish with minimal salt is to use a chicken bouillon cube.

Not that sweet. Enough that I go easy on the sugar in the rub, but it's not very strong.

Yeah, Dr. Pepper and Coke are usually pretty good to soak your ham in.

My wife does this all the time.
It always turns out great.

She usually goes with th Boston butt. She puts a dry rub on it then puts in some beef stock.
Then adds the veggies if you want them.

She does BBQ sandwiches at times as well.
If you are going to do that put he BBQ in last just enough to warm it up.
