Modern diet is NOT meeting our nutritional needs
Rucklidge says the shift from natural wholefoods to packaged processed foods and takeaways has likely played a vital role in the increasing rates of mental illness.
“Our diet has changed so rapidly over 50 years that it’s hard not to believe that it’s having some impact on our mental health,” she said.
“My work shows that, because we show an impact of using vitamins and minerals on mental health, it simply proves the point that the diet these people are eating is simply not adequately meeting their nutritional needs.”

I noted the George Dickel was not listed as a processed food, thank god.

I will readily agree with you, Militant Vegan, that all this processed food is bad for us.
And I will agree that it may play a role in the increasing rates of mental illness.

But it's only a small cog in the larger machine that has contributed to the decline in mental stability in our western culture.

a. Processed foods, yes.

b. The disintegration of the nuclear family and the staggering increase in kids being raised in single parent households.

c. A societal and cultural shift in recent years wherein nobody is ever held accountable for anything.
Everything that ever goes wrong is somebody else's fault, and all our kids are rare and special snowflakes, etc.
Which is why so many of them are still living in mom's basement at age 40, and unemployed.

and most importantly,

d. The staggering rise in the consumption and abuse of prescription medications and OTC medications.
The classes of prescription drugs most commonly abused are: opioid pain relievers, such as Vicodin or Oxycontin; stimulants for treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), such as Adderall, Concerta, or Ritalin; and central nervous system (CNS) depressants for relieving anxiety, such as Valium or Xanax.
The most commonly abused OTC drugs are cough and cold remedies containing dextromethorphan.

Does this make sense?
Diet is huge, and diet is important.
But parenting matters too.
And keeping doctors and the pharmaceutical industry in check matters even more.

:(

Hmmm, interesting. I've never really heard of the link between fast foods and mental illness. I am well aware that the link between obesity and processed foods go hand and hand. The French eat highly fatty foods and still don't have the rate we have....there foods are usually not highly process and therefore the body metabolizes it differently.

the french tend to eat "slow food" small portions, some fat, way fewer chemicals.

Ho hum.

That link is long on opinion and very short on any credible research.

No medical journals, no published results, and no credible sources.

Information is low level unprofessional opinion.

Not hard to believe, and evidence are two seperate concepts.

case in point.

I think naturaljuicejunkie.com is doing enough damage.

I was under the impression that mental illness preceded eating fast food. If fish is brain food why don't Eskimos move to a warmer climate?

Yea, I read the link - it is a joke.

Anyone who gives it a shred of credibility is easily swayed by crap.

Or simply wants to believe it.
