IN terms of actually liking the burger I like Umami, In N Out, Five Guys, Plan B.

However I also voted Maccy D's because I find something oddly satisfying about a big mac. I know it's not a good burger, but for some reason when you're in the right mood it just really hits that spot.

Whataburger is garbage. Don't know how it's currently in the lead.

I'm that way with Big Macs. 2-3 times a year I get a craving and nothing else will do. And the fake Big Macs that other places try to do aren't worthy.

I don't know, I think that Red Robbins does a pretty good take on the fake Big Mac.

I loved their mountain high mud pie. I always got sick after eating it, but so what.

I used to love Red Robin (in general), but last few years they've taken a nosedive.

They are OK in terms of a sit down burger joint. They have some variants I like a lot, and some "gourmet" burgers (they are good...but too pricey for what they actually are IMO). But their beer selection sucks.

I miss Steak and Shake. That's a Mid-West thing and we don't have them in Colorado. I loved that place (though it may be more nostalgia than quality at this point). Five Guys I go to as well and I think they are pretty decent.

I miss Jack in the Box and Whataburger. Used to me my favorites down south.

I gotta say my favorite now is Culver's but it's not on the list.

Culver's burgers are OK but they make a Reuben that's as good as most deli's and their fried fish is excellent.

In the spirit of self help I would ask the question: which of these are your favorite burger chains?

You can vote multiple choices so let's get at it!

With exception to white castle and five guys I pretty much like all of them. It depends what I am in the mood for. Burger king has that flame broiled taste, McDonalds fries are awesome. So if the two are next to each other then I will get fries at one and burgers at the other. Carl's Jr has great six dollar portobello mushroom burger.Whattaburger kind of reminds of the Lot-A-Burger local burger chain(not to be confused with Blake's Lotaburger).Wendy's and Sonic are good. I like Jack in the Box's burgers on sour dough, but I usually go there for their 2 for 99 cent tacos which are different than other fast food tacos. I like Steak-N-shake but they are not close to where I live or work. I never had a five-guys burger and the only white castle burgers I had were freezer section white castle burgers and copycat recipes. Which I do like.

I eat at Wendy's about once a month. I like to mingle with the little people now and then.

Red Robin is kind of pricey, especially their drinks. Their drink prices are outrageous. Seriously, I only drink ice water at Red Robin when I do go... which is seldom anymore.

I miss Jack, too. They have some good stuff.

Culver's is very good. And consistent. I wouldn't say #1, but in the top 5.

how would you describe the quality of meat McDonald's uses?

Never tried 5 Guys, one is coming soon so they say, but your critique of I/O cannot be taken seriously.

I tried 5 guys once. Too greasy for me. Also a caveat. I believe they use peanut oil for fries.

My favorite fast food burger joint. Cookout.
i think a southern east coast chain.

I chose Five Guys but I haven't tried a bunch of them. Can't remember the last time I ate a hamburger at McDonalds. When I was young we would stop at White Castle late at night. They don't call them murder burgers for nothing. We have a Jakes Wayback in town. Went there once, it was no better than BK and more expensive. The nice thing about Five Guys are the free peanuts and cool soda machine that has a like 20 different flavors.

Leaving In-n-Out off the list is sacrilege.

I hear Whataburger is comparable, but I have not tried it.

Probably because In and Out is very very very overrated.

I like my own burgers the best. I cook up a mean 1/2lb burger on my Weber faster than I can go get one. I like my burger medium rare and juicy. I change up the topping and bun from time to time but the meat cannot be frozen. The different flavors you can mix with fresh ground beef is endless. I dice up chilies when I want it hot. Sometimes I am in the mood for minced onions in my burger. I do different cheeses. But the bottom line is everything must be fresh. Especially the bun. You cannot fix a stale bun. You can butter it, toast it, and microwave it but fresh is best. I can't wait for those fresh tomatoes from the garden. They can change the whole taste of a burger. A fresh picked ripe heirloom such as the brandy-wine or Cherokee purple along with fresh crisp lettuce and you will never go back to a chain. I am sick of those tasteless winter tomatoes from the grocery store.

my favorite burger joints are a couple independent places in my hometown. as for chains, McDonalds, Steak N Shake, and Hardees (Carl's Jr.) gets honorable mention.

McDonald's and Burger king are the bottom of the food chain in every way including the clientele

I started as a Steak-n-Shake dishwasher, worked my way up to curb (tips were great) relief manager, assistant manager, and when they were about to promote me to Store manager I quit. I was afraid I would be stuck there for life. Anyway, I never did get tried of their food. Love it all, my favorite was a double cheese with a scoop of chili over it.

It was not the 60+ hour work week for a 40 hour salary that did it then.......

In most of these places it is not the dead end, it is the lack of having a life that is the major problem.

EDIT: $37K a year for that BS?

NO. THANKS.

Not a fast food burger eater. Maybe 4-5 times a year. Of those listed, I like Five Guys best.

and if funky blues is also being played over the sound system, chances are good it will be a great burger
