The American Egg Board tried to quash Hampton Creek’s Just Mayo—an eggless, plant-based mayonnaise—last year. It lost. Now it’s time to get the American Egg Board out of the White House. It will supply more than 30,000 hard-boiled eggs for the White House Easter Egg Roll on March 28.

It’s a scheme the industry-backed organization uses to push disease-causing eggs to even the youngest Americans. Thanks to marketing like this, 1 in 5 children in the United States has high cholesterol. This places them at greater risk for future diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

At the Physicians Committee’s International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine: Cardiovascular Disease last summer, Gerald Berenson, M.D., presented research showing many children have at least one risk factor for heart disease by the time they reach elementary school. In his long-running Bogalusa Heart Study, Dr. Berenson’s team found that signs of hypertension and atherosclerosis can appear by ages 5 to 8.

But there is hope. At the conference, Michael Macknin, M.D, presented a groundbreaking study finding that dietary interventions can reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors in children. In the study, overweight children who adopted a plant-based diet lost weight, reduced cholesterol levels, and improved blood pressure numbers within weeks.

The White House can do its part to help stop heart disease and diabetes in children by putting an end to the American Egg Board’s Easter egg roll and hatching a plan for a healthier way to help children celebrate the holiday.

I love people that want to forbid people doing their thing.

My father had easter egg hunts when he was a kid and he lived to 89. He also hated vegetables and smoked all his life, his last words to me were bring me another carton of cigarettes.

When he was a kid and I was a kid, all the garbage food that is full of fat and salt and cholesterol were "treats" not a diet. I ate hard boiled easter eggs all my life and I still do with my grand kids. I have NO high cholesterol, no high blood pressure and no diabetes.

ITS IN THE GENES STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and its in the parents, give kids balanced meals instead of 10 bucks to go to McDs because your a lazy pos.

Especially when it's getting children outside, in the fresh air, and having fun. The f'n nerve huh?

Easter egg hunts are one of my kids favorite memories of their childhood.
That and coloring/dying the easter eggs.

Awesome.

Now that this thread (like so many others from MV) is where it belongs, let's talk eggs.

I don't really prefer hard-boiled....I'd be much more inclined to go this way:

My only complaint about the easter egg roll is the fact that easter has nothing/nada/zilch to do with eggs or a bunny. But that's up to the individual.

Another silly article. Why am I not surprised. I went to a lot of Easter egg hunts when I was a kid and I never saw any of the children eat those eggs. Not even one. We took part in the contest not for the eggs but for the prizes when we found the golden one.

If you wanted a logical argument, you'd cheer this waste of 30,000 eggs that don't go to feed anyone, child or adult. The more logical argument would be that wasting 30,000 eggs on a publicity stunt for the President and First Lady is a gross waste of good food that could be shared with the many children who go hungry in Washington, DC every day.

I'd rather have them tell me what to eat than people who end up killing kids by forcing a vegan diet on them.
