Tonight's Valentine Dinner for you and your Sweetie?

Can be either at home or dining out.

Us, at home...

- New York strip steaks
- sauteed mushrooms & onion
- baked potatoes w/sour cream & butter
- asparagus w/butter & garlic

We're going for quality over quantity.

Wife works tonight, so we did it last night. I bought a butt tender (the fat end of the tenderloin), trimmed it, and cut it into fillets. Next, I got some thick cut bacon, laid a few pieces out, and hit them with rough ground black pepper. Then I took a mixing bowl, poured in a little olive oil, and mixed in sea salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, and a healthy (unhealthy?) dose of parm cheese. Steaks went into the bowl and got coated, and I let those sit for most of the afternoon, at room temp. Took the bacon, wrapped the steaks, tied it off with butcher twine, then patted and pressed a layer of ground parm onto each side. Put some olive oil in a good non stick pan, and let it get HOT. And I mean....HOT. As hot as olive oil can go before it burns...which is right around 500 degrees, for extra virgin. Slapped the steak on there, let it sit for about 1 minute, then flipped, then popped them into the oven at 400 degrees for about...6-8 minutes, give or take.

Had that with some fresh green beans, and yeast rolls. Got the wife some wine, she likes blushes and roses, and I got myself a nice bottle of Innuss and Gunn Rum Cask Ale. Good stuff.

All in all, it was the best meal we have had in quite some time. We don't splurge much.

Hah!

The first two replies back-up our family motto: "What brings us together as a family? Steak"! :2razz:

Due to scheduling, I had to do mine last night too, and let's face it: Saturday's the better 'date night'! So I simply bought a ton of Thai food from a local joint, that luckily for us is one of the best in the city.

She's Asian.

She loved it.

Making her happy, made me happy.

And she always gives back more than she receives.

Ain't that what it's all about? :2wave:
