Saw a documentary called "Food Inc." and in it they stated because of modern day food processing and feeding corn(fructose) to all animals including fish, the sugar content in our food will inflict diabetes in 1of 3 Caucasians and of one of two minorities if they were born after 2000.

That may drive up medical care costs but who will care when we have UHC? ;)

Easy to explain.

One, we subsidize all the wrong foods while doing nothing for more healthy alternatives. There is clear reason why it is far more expensive to each more healthy foods.

Two, Corn specifically has so much intervention and distortions to date it is no shock it ends up in everything from food basis ingredients to fuel, and from animal feed to sweeteners and other additives.

Three, our government was dumb enough to trust the food industry that tries to convince us that all calories are equal. When we clearly know the human body does not treat all foods, and all calories, the same way.

Four, the food industry puts sweeteners in everything they possibly can. And way too much of it. Seriously, go look at all the semi to completely processed foods at the grocery store. Look at the ingredients list and odds are some sort of additive is there in the top three ingredients to encourage you to eat more of it. Further, it is probably a corn based product.

... and we wonder why we are at the top in obesity and diabetes, and account for so much consumption in comparison to world population by percent. We did this to ourselves.

That will make our health care costs explode.

Yep, with a lot of (expensive) help from the federal government. It sure was wise of the PPACA engineers to omit obesity as an actuarial risk factor for setting premium rates. Subsidize corn based sweeteners and socialize their medical care costs - brilliant central planning, indeed. ;)

disturbing to the point of horrifying but unfortunately not surprising

most of our diet should consist of veggies, fruit, nuts and small amounts of lean protein

the body simply does not know how to break down processed food, we were not meant to be eating deep fried chicken and burgers on buns

not really. exercise, and maintain a healthy weight. i was pre-diabetic eleven years ago, and dropping a bunch of weight fixed it. i still eat some Mickey Dees, and i'm going out for a fattening NYE dinner in an hour. i'll be walking there, though.

basically, move as much as you can, and keep track of what you eat.

You poor suckers. Those of us born in the 50's are going to die soon, and there won't be anybody left to pay the health care costs. You should do all you can to help keep us alive. We may be your only hope. PM me for an address to which you can send funds to assure longevity, and together we'll beat back the scourge. I'm right there with ya on this.

One fact brought out in this documentary was the explosion of the fast food industry i.e., McDonalds started it for the most part. As a result the number of cattle required to meet the demands soared. so naturally, what is the cheapest way to meet theses new demands? Cheaper feed for the cattle so they stopped feeding them their natural diet and gave them corn only. Corn has become the arsenic of the animal feed kingdom. they stated they are engineering even fish to eat corn. Real natural huh? There was another two hour presentation on PBS last night covering the same issues. Note the poor suffer more because the corner stores in poor neighborhood serve chips and coke primarily. Many cities now have started grow your own veggies programs using vacated lots as growing fields with the residents doing their own farming. So, bottom line is why not attack these food manufactures like we do the tobacco companies?
