When I was growing up my grandparents had a large plantation style house and us grandkids would always spend the winter holidays with them. There was always plenty of food just lying around in the long dinning hall and in the fridge so we helped ourselves to snacks between mealtimes and my grandma had an extensive VHS collection so we could choose from hundreds of movies to watch if we didn't like what was on TV.
Since Ive moved on though I always make it a point to try and get the kind of food and drink that was always served at their house and now its become sort of a tradition that I buy specific types of food that I remember from my childhood and serve it during the holiday season.
Here are a few that I remember- I always buy these things during Christmas time and keep them around in case I want to snack.
Edam cheese ball:
Sliced salami: (along with olives and pickles)
My grandma always had lemon squares too:
The only thing I didnt like was the lutefisk so I dont even bother with that one. Does anyone else here have special food that they only buy during Xmas?
