So for the first time in months I go out with my friends and have a drink at a nearby bar. And everybody else immediately orders light beer... LIGHT BEER?! Are you freakin' kidding me? Light beer is like water with piss in it, nobody who can call himself a man drinks light beer!!! :censored

I was the only one who ordered an amber ale, I did try to order a stout but they didn't have any (stupid bar) and in the end I ordered some shots of Jack Daniels too. :drink

But seriously, I just don't understand the attraction for light beer, I really don't...

I agree.

I'm trying to lose some weight right now, but I'm not drinking light beer - I'm drinking a little less real beer.

different tastes....

some like blondes, some like brunettes

some like dark beer

some like ambers

and some like light beers

but i like your taste in bourbon

i drink Jack myself....no ice, and no mixers

that's like light wine...wtf is that stuff

give me a good merlot or keep it

if it's about calories order something decent and drink less don't screw with the taste

Everything has it's place.

When I was in the Army in Germany (of all places) Lite was my beer of choice.

When we'd go out to the bars off post I'd drink weissbier or Guinness (if we went to an Irish bar) and every once in a while I'd break things up with a rack of Grolsch or the local pils, but hanging around the barracks it'd be Lite 90% of the time.

But I was easily drinking a case, case and a half a day, and liquor on top of that, so I couldn't really afford much more on a lower enlisted salary.

I'm a huge beer snob, but I've been known to quaff a Lite beer from time to time. Just depends on what I want.

The neighborhood I grew-up in was Eastern European, to the point about half the denizens (if not more) spoke Polish. This was a longtime ago, before there even was 'lite-beer', or at least any that used or advertised the term 'lite'! And obviously, this also predated America's relatively recent 'craft-beer' explosion. This big-city neighborhood may have been modest, fugal, and even a bit backwards in terms of urban sophistication - but dayem, if they didn't know good beer!

Consequently, I grew-up drinking really great and often classic European beers, and never developed a taste for the piss-water stuff; and that's exactly what we called most of the American crap, then: "piss-water".

Whoa!

You were pretty thirsty, back then!

and the irony here is...those were the days when people were skinny

there was no "light" anything...the fatter we get the more "light" appears to be the way we are encouraged to go

well at least it was until about eight months ago when some scientist clued in and began to "study" the synchronicity of light and fat

now we're back to "don't choose lite anything" it's unhealthy

who noz

*bolded for relevance

I do very much agree with your statement, for America as a whole.

But in a predominately Polish neighborhood, even back then, all that beer, kielbasa, and pierogies had their effect!

Which brings-up an interesting aside: What one perceives as skinny, another perceives as 'lacking in curves'. My Polish neighborhood bordered an Italian neighborhood, and a lot of the Italian guys saw the Polish girls as 'desirably curvy' (along with tall, blond, light skinned, and blue-eyed - all antithetical physical qualities to Southern Italian features), and this along with their strong Catholicism, led to more than a few Polish-Italian marriages.

My parents are exactly this type of marriage, but with the twist that my Mom's Southern Italian (Calabrese', but born here), and my father immigrated from Poland!

that is quite the blood mix you have there....so cool

fat back then is not the same as now

back then my mum was what I thought was "fat"...today it would be considered normal to slightly over weight...mainly because it was not unhealthy...it did not shorten her life, I really don't remember any 200 plus pound women or 300 plus pound men, today that is almost normal for many

science has not helped us weight-wise...I think it will begin to now

pierogies...it has been years since I made pierogies...I looooooooooooove pierogies

stuck in my head now...sour cream...and onions...with pierogies

JUST WHISKEY

I agree. Anyone that drinks light beer is a weirdo.

If I drink beer it is to get drunk.

I dont even like people drinking out of clear beer bottles because that is gay. Beer should come in a brown bottle.

Men should drink Tooheys or VB longnecks. Anything else is totally gay.

edit- a long neck is a bomber for you Americans.

And what is with all of those American beer commercials with the Clydesdales? You American men are getting pretty emotional and sensitive hey? Why are your beer commercials so emotional? If you have cried over a Clydesdale beer commercial maybe you should keep that to yourselves. Seriously.

Alcoholism and homophobia, big surprise.

Keep believing your beer makes you a man. *snicker*

Beer is not just for getting drunk. If you're drinking the piss beer, then yes, the goal is to get drunk. But it's quite possible to enjoy one or two nice craft beers for the purpose of enjoying a high quality and tasty beverage.

Currently drinking Morland Brewery Hen's Tooth.

Good ****.

NOT lite, lol.

With the pierogis lightly browned in butter, and topped with crumbled bacon!

The trick is, you can't use a non stick pan. It has to be steal, or cast iron, otherwise, they just won't brown right.

A little oil, and then let them SIT till they are READY to be flipped. SO many people think that sticking is an issue. All that means is, it's not ready to flip[ yet!
