Plastics used in cooking

I used a plastic cylinder to use as a base to cook corn. I did not check the water and when I checked the pot, the plastic had MELTED!

Question: would it still be safe to eat the corn? The kitchen smelled of burnt corn and maybe something else.

I would advise against it.
