No, this isnt about Popeye's really thin girlfriend but rather I wanted to ask which brand do you think has the best extra virgin olive oil? Ive been using Ybarra (Spanish) and Fillipo Berio (Italian) for the years Ive been buying them at the grocery but there were recent news reports that these brands may be suspect in regards to whether what they bottle up really is olive oil. Any thoughts?

I've read a few articles about fake EVOO. Some claim that up to 70% of all olive oil is adulterated. The only olive oil I can remember getting a good grade is Vigo.

I was like that too until I got exposed to some very gourmet olive oils so now I gotta have the real thing. Sadly Im a bit of a miser when I go to the grocery and end up buying the cheapest bottle.

They used to make a pretty good one here in AZ, from local trees. Lots of olive trees here, messy, nasty trees. But, the oil is amazing..

I've heard that too, about a lot of the cheaper olive oils? That they are only partially olive oil, mixed with other cheaper oils.

I usually use Filipo Berio (sp) for regular Olive Oil that you cook with. But when it matters? When you gotta have the Extra Virgin, and taste really matters?

I go here:

Golden Isles Olive Oil

It's a whole store of nothing but olive oils (mostly flavored) and they have a few flavored balsamic vinegars there, too. But the Extra Virgin Olive Oil there is just so good, it'll make you slap yo' momma. A friend got me a gift basket for Christmas, and I fell in love with it. Went a couple of months ago and dropped $95 and could have spent much more. I have to go back and get some garlic-infused. Pour a little extra virgin in a small dish, mix some Italian herbs in with it, and dip some nice, crusty Italian bread in there.

Dang. I gotta shut up.

Well, you of all people know whether or not you deserve the best olive oil you can buy. Apparently you don't. ;)
