What's your "comfort food"?

"lol: I was actually joking when I said "no-cal". I didn't know it even existed. That's funny.

I won't touch no-cal or fat free ranch dressing, and sugar-free ice cream is an abomination.

Sugar free ice cream is a sacrilege.
 
I'm a fan of good Pud Thai with peanut sauce.

I could almost eat that every day. (Chicken or Beef doesn't matter)

it varies, but a good burger and fries came to mind first, so that must be it. we have a couple local places in town that are just flat out awesome, and they are my favorites. i'm not afraid to admit that i also like McDonald's a lot. the GF does, too, so it was fun to find that we had that in common.

My son feels the same way you do about mac-n-cheese! :thumbs: I had a nice older woman that watched my children while I was at work, and she made what she called "mac-easy." After she boiled the macaroni, drained it, and put it in a serving bowl, she stirred in half a jar of Cheese-Whiz, nuked it for a minute or two, and there was the creamiest mac-n-cheese you ever saw. No baking in the oven, quick and easy, and my kids loved it! It's still one of their favorite meals, and they are all grown up now. Bless that woman, and good cooks everywhere, especially those that make it from scratch, like your mom and my mom did! Yum!

Mac-and-cheese is an art form!

My mom said when I was little, a babysitter once tried to feed me the stuff in a box with the powdered cheese (in fairness, it was the 80's).

Note-- I said once.

They never could get me to go to that particular sitter again...:lamo

But if you don't bake it you don't get the crust on top!

I have to say that among my few guilty pleasures is melted cheese cooked just enough to start turning brown and get a little crust to it. I could just eat the cheese from around the rim of a crock of French Onion soup and be satisfied.

I don't have a set comfort food as they are more seasonal. In cold months it is usually a Chinese take-out combo I order. In warmer months it is a good home-made salad that I put in the freezer and then eat just before it reaches frozen.
 
Yoghurt, primarily with blueberries does it for me. If I'm sick, oatmeal.

what we call in "yankee" cornbread is thick and like cake.

texas cornbread is thin, and has a crunch.

this is done by heating a cast iron pan on the stove with some oil until it very hot, then the cornbread mixture is poured over the hot oil to where it frys for a moment, then the pan is put into the oven to brown the top.

when the cornbread is turned out the bottom to very brown and crunchy.

That's how my dad makes his when he makes chili and ohmygawd is it good!

I cook mine thinner than many in the oven, so is that Mid-Atlantic or Mississippi cornbread or something like that? :2razz:

well i have lived in the north and in seeing and eating their cornbread, it has more the consistency of cake with a slight bit of sweetness in thick squares.

cornbread, i have seen but not always eaten tens to be on the thin side in the southern states, i don't know where the transition goes from thick to thin state by state.

Texans do not consider themselves southerners but ours is thin.

On any given day, Texans do not consider themselves Americans either. I like cornbread to be slightly sweet, but I prefer it thinner so it is less crumbly. The more crumble, the more likely I will get gagged on it.

Crispy roast belly-pork with homemade apple sauce, mashed potatoes and steamed string beans.
 
Kraft Dinner Spirals with ground beef, chopped bell pepper and a little salsa, tobacco, salt, pepper and season salt. Next would have to be eggplant parmesan made like lasagna not just breaded slices laid out on a plate with cheesed and sauce on top. Hot dogs still rank high on the list.
