Peanut butter

Try it with preserves instead of jelly. Or just use fresh fruit. I like strawberry.

This year, since I'm now retired and have the time, I make strawberry and blueberry freezer preserves. They are just like eating the fresh fruit only sweetened and are exceedingly good on PB sandwiches. Therefore, my PM intake has increased. When grapes come in, if I can find any Concord grapes, I may make some grape jelly, too.

Yes, it's very fattening and probably not something you would want to eat every day. You might want to try to spread a thin layer on toast. The warm toast makes it melty and delicious! :)

I recall my grade school teachers saying that. Not sure if it is because I just generally didn't like peanut butter at that age, but I found peanut butter on toast to exceed noxious. I've not tried it as an adult. Another think I just can't stomach is iced coffee. I've given it more than enough chances, and after that first sip, I'm ready to hurl. I LOVE hot coffee, though. Just don't think it was meant to be served cold. The only other thing I can think of that I really detest is eggplant. Have given it several chances too. Just end up with more of that hurl thingy.

I never much cared for jelly, but peanut butter and any kind of fruit preserves- that makes a pretty good sandwich/

I've never had eggplant before. I love ice coffee and peanut butter toast though, but I've always liked peanut butter.

I'll bet it tastes so much better when you make it yourself too! Yum! I'm going to have to give that a try someday.

One of the things we ate on the farm was 3 layer peanut butter and cane syrup.
(For those of you with not from the south think molasses)
this was placed on 3 slices of white bread, and then pressed flat.
Looking back, I guess it is an acquired taste:)

People who like eggplant think it is really good, and there are a lot of casserole type recipes using eggplant. There is NO way to disguise it enough that I can choke it down.

My mother used to take molasses and muddle it with butter and smear it on a biscuit. That is some FINE eatin'. Haven't had that in years, though.

So for the first time in my life, 2 days ago I bought peanut butter, genuine american peanut butter, of 2 kinds.

This is what I think of it.
The good:
a) It's pretty good. I like to eat it by itself, so dont' spread it on bread or anything. Just scoop it up and eat it. I usually take 2spoons of it after my morning workout while I'm busy cooking breakfast.
b) It's high in nutrition. I mean, lots of proteins if the label is to be trusted. And proteins are great for recovery.
c) There are apparently many things you can do with it in cooking and stuff. I found recipes online but mostly for deserts. And I don't cook deserts, just regular food.
d) good cost for size. I mean it cost 3 euros for 454gr which is pretty good.

The bad:
a) It's very caloric intensive. I mean 600kcalories for 100gr? That's insane. Chocolate doesn't have that much.
b) quite salty.
c) apparently, peanut butter jelly sandwich is disgusting. I mean, I was looking forward to trying it, god damn it's disgusting as ****. How can you eat that?

Peanut butter and jelly on white bread. Awesomesauce. Oh, and if you want to cut down on salt and preservatives, get the natural stuffs. Fantastic.

don't forget the Fool's Gold Loaf :

fools-gold-loaf-1077900l1.jpg

Fool's Gold Loaf is a sandwich made by the Colorado Mine Company, a restaurant in Denver, Colorado. The sandwich consists of a single warmed, hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with the contents of one jar of creamy peanut butter, one jar of grape jelly, and a pound of bacon. The sandwich's connection to Elvis Presley is the source of its legend and prolonged interest. According to The Life and Cuisine of Elvis Presley, it was the focus of a midnight sandwich run by Elvis Presley and his friends. Taking his private jet from Graceland, Presley and his friends purchased 22 of the sandwiches and spent three hours eating the sandwiches and drinking Perrier and champagne before flying home. The story became legend and the sandwich became the subject of continued media interest and part of numerous cookbooks, typically focused around Presley's love of food.

My favorite out of regular off the shelf brands is peter pan honeyroast, which is so good it needs nothing with it. It is calorie intense because nuts are so high in fat.
I like pb and banana sandwiches. My mom says that peanut butter and sweet pickle relish is great.

I love pb and banana sandwiches, too! Yum! I have never heard of pb and sweet pickle relish - do you mix it together and put it on bread, or hotdogs, or what? I'd like to try it.

Greetings, lizzie. :2wave:

As far as I know, she just spreads pb on one slice of bread, and sweet pickle relish on the other (like pb&j). Since I found the peter pan honeyroast, I never eat anything else with it- just the pb on bread, toast, or crackers. I LOVE the stuff.

Have you ever had a chocolate cake iced with peanut butter icing? OMG it's awesome. Peanut butter icing is easy to make using a buttercream icing recipe and replacing the butter with peanut butter. I prefer that because the icing closely resembles peanut butter fudge. If you like icing to be a bit more creamy try a ratio of 1/2 cup butter and 1 cup creamy peanut butter to 4 cups of confectioners' sugar and a third cup of milk or cream. Either way it rocks.

Ooooh, I'm going to try it!

I love PB&J, though I prefer strawberry preserves over grape jelly. A common breakfast for me is a piece of toast with PB and strawberry preserves spread on.

Same here. Grape is good, but strawberry preserves are great with pb. Another thing strawberry preserves are great on is just plain ritz crackers (no pb). (I know it's off topic from peanut butter, but it's sooooo good lol).

first time in your life?incredible

A few months ago when I was eating at a restaurant they told me they had a peanut butter and jelly cheesecake for dessert so of course I had to partake of it. ;)

It is pretty caloric intensive, but to a point so are peanuts themselves. Also, part of the problem is that many mass produced peanut butters have a lot of added sugar, which doesn't help the calorie aspect. Americans love their sugar, even though most are not consciously aware how deeply it has pervaded our processed foods.

Personally, I like the salty/sweet taste of peanut butter. My favorite way to eat it is on a hot toasted english muffin... where it melts into the muffin. Ooh, that's good stuff.

Now you need to try cashew butter...

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches are great tasting.

And that's mighty healthy food.

my favorite sandwich, bar none.

I also eat Peanut butter and Wheat germ sandwiches

occasionally, i'll make Peanut butter and banana quesadillas with a fresh salsa and plain greek yogurt topping

Peanut butter is mostly an American thing. It's not easy to even find across the pond. And in my experience most foreigners find it disgusting if they ever do try it. We're used to it over here having grown up eating the stuff, but when you think about it pb has a pretty strong flavor.

PBJ is real good. My last one was this:

I prefer Jif. they add molasses as an ingredient.

Everyone makes their PBJs differently. However there still is a "correct" way to do it. For one, you have to use white American sliced bread. The "toast" bread. Not any of the silly European hard rolls, or thick sliced loaves, or anything that will be too dense, dry or nutty. You also need to use a sweet jelly or jam. Not preservatives, but a fruit spread, preferably grape, that is thin and spreadable. The most basic PBJ should come out looking exactly like this: Peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Once you've got that mastered and have acquired a taste, THEN you can start doing things to change it around. Using different breads, jelly/jam, frying, etc., etc.
Sorry, but... *gag*.

Eating peanut butter as is, is mostly an american thing but in some parts of Africa and Southeast Asia, peanut butter is used to make sauces
Asian peanut sauce on skewered chicken or mixed in rice, omg!
