youtube has a video "Super Size Me Fast food Test" and if you eat their fries you owe it to yourself to watch it. After being in a glass jar for 11 weeks there is no visible change to the fries!!! Why don't they rot like the other foods they put under glass including fries from a mom and pop eatery? It got me thinking way back after gutting my interior to do a full clean and vacuum I found a couple french fires that were in pristine condition but never gave it much thought. Scary stuff. There are a ton of videos on food that you really do not want to watch.

Back in the day, they used to hold wakes and funerals within a day or so of death and embalming...fermaldihide can only do so much.

Now? Now it takes up to a week before some bodies start to decompose, due to the amount of preservatives already in our system.

That's really scary.:(

Not sure if it's still the case but MacFries use to come in a 5 gallon bucket already mixed with the shortening. (or whatever)

Doesn't matter to me, I've hated fast food fries ever since they made it so they can't be fried in good ole fashion animal fat. I usually get alternatives to fries such as salads and such.

A bit of science for you - since that seems to be much needed, here.

ALL FRENCH FRIES are the same. Yep - they won't rot when crammed in a jar. Wendy's, Sonic, the crap your mom made and tried to say were fries. Why? Because they're all made in an environment which reduces water content - hence no microbes that lead to rot can grow and thrive. If they are 'wet' when you eat them it's not from water, it's from oil. This environment is further aided by removing outside exposure to potential thing such as humidity - by putting them in a jar they are then cut off from natural sources of water unlike when they're in a compost heap.

If you were to add water - they would decay.

Any fried food that has its natural water source completely removed will face this.

And other environments, such as a traditionally made fruit cake, have an environment that's actually oxygen-less (anaerobic) - and thus, again, won't decay. The worlds oldest known fruitcake is over 100 and was actually eaten as part of a test of this theory without ill results.

---

So this is stuff you experiment on in science class in high school or junior high. Anyone who doesn't understand this concept as an adult looks like an idiot - especially when they somehow become convinced, with their supposed higher intellect, that McDonald's is a rare freak of nature or something and should be singled out.

It is deperation of the health food nazis. They know if they tell people that fast food is high calories, fat and sodium the responses they get is either " No **** sherlock" or " what? submersing potatoes in hot oil and frying meat with a high fat content is not healthy.. you don't say" . So they have to come up with some sort nonsense to try to demonize fast food.

My wife bakes our bread but a couple years ago our son phoned in the morning and said he would come over for breakfast. We were out of bread so my wife told him to pick up a loaf on the way- he showed up with a loaf of 'WonderBread'. That loaf was in the cupboard for six weeks (we kept track) until a speck of mould showed up on it. My wife's bread isn't good for more than four days.

Do people eat at fastfood every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day except for the guy who did it for a documentary?

Actually yes, with positive results.

The interesting thing is that any objective observation of the food (not the OP's chemophobic tirade) shows that fast food is probably healthier overall than restaurant food. The problem is that fast food is convenient and cheap, which encourages those who don't make diet considerations to eat large amounts of it on a consistent basis.

He did that for an experiment.

There's no difference between fast food and restaurant food to me. All that matters is the time it takes to fix it and the restaurant environment given to the patrons.

People even try to argue that cooking at home is healthier.

Hah!

Haven't been to my house - I was thoroughly shocked when I started super analyzing our food content as to how unhealthy it all really was. It took a lot of work to overhaul my shopping and cooking habits for the entire family.

Ya, I don't think that there is much difference in nutrition between a #1 Value Meal from McDonalds, and what most of us consider to be "good food".

Beef, a little salad with dressing, couple slices of bread, and some potatoes. It's the same thing whether we call it fast food, a backyard cookout, or a steakhouse dinner.

Not really, since the home-prepared stuff uses much less salt.

I do know about that. The sodium count on a fast food burger includes the sodium in the bun, the sodium in the cheese, the sodium in the mustard, the sodium in the beef patty and the sodium added during the cooking process. 350 milligrams of sodium for large fries and 1100 milligrams of sodium for a big mac. A quarter teaspoon of table salt is 590 milligrams of sodium. A dinner roll or biscuit by itself with no butter can contain up to 300 milligrams of sodium or more, a couple tablespoons of ranch dressing can contain up that amount,a ten ounce steak from the store can contain up to 200 milligrams of sodium and I am sure some of the things in your salad naturally contains sodium. I do not know about you but I add plenty of salt of my potatoes and steak and I add more than a few tablespoons of dressing to my salad, some people eat their steak with some Worcestershire sauce, A-1 or some Heinz 57.

I am no stranger to sodium. My usual steak marinade has plenty of Worcestershire in it, although I generally don't salt my potatoes or vegetables (unless I'm making salt potatoes, which, well, is kinda advertised on the tin). I do a homemade vinaigrette for salads. If one is making a steak dinner, yeah, it's going to be high in sodium content, but per volume, fast food is far worse in that regard.

That's interesting because way back when bread used to get moldy within a couple weeks max. I am convinced if there is ever a nuclear war none of us will be harmed.
