Heya! You just visiting or staying, Winch? ;)

Plan on sticking around, seems to be fairly well balanced around here, plenty of discussions.

Cool, welcome aboard! Lots of familiar faces here, heck I seen Thrilla go online here a few days ago (though he hasnt posted in awhile).

Post #13 is Dos Equis, you never heard of the most interesting man in the world? ;)

I'm drinking Dos Equis by default nowadays.
My favorite beer, Pete's Wicked Ale, was discontinued a couple years ago.
I'm still in mourning.
Anyway, all the recommendations on this thread have inspired me.
As a form of catharsis, I shall venture forth and sample the various beers.
It's a tough job, but I've gotta deal with my grief somehow.

Anyway, to bring it back to beer, has anyone tried the Sixth Glass from Boulevard brewing? I just picked up a 4 pack and it's pretty good. It's the first Belgium Quad I've ever had. At 10.5%, it'l kick your ass!

I will try this....if I can find it.
Ever try Gulden Draak?
Belgian and also 10.5%.
Has a little sweetness.
Pricey and not widely available.
BevMo is the only place I can get it.

I found this one at the craft beer store. It was $11 for a 48 ounce bottle. I just couldn't pay that much. What if it sucked? I would have been pissed.

Awww, come on! How bad can it be? $11 isnt gonna kill you...

What's your favorite type and brand of beer?

I can say without contention that the US has now gone into a beer renaissance in the past twenty years, when I was growing up it was just awful with beers like Budweiser, Heineken and Coors dominating the scene with their light lagers that pretty much tasted like piss. At least now we got much better choices and breweries have sprung up all over the place with some good local stuff. I can say US beer is now the best in the world with its varieties and flavors.

I do like stouts because they have the most intense flavor and filling of all types of beer, the others are also good but I will no longer touch light lagers- growing up with those mentioned brands has given me an aversion to any type of light lager now. My brand of choice is Flying Dog- though its kinda tough to get them where I am. ;)

I live in the land of bier so I drink what I find locally. Usually a schwarzbier (dark beer) or weizen (wheat beer).

The name is hilarious. I am from the Baptist tradition. Alcohol is moderately forbidden in our culture. On paper it is against the rules. A good Baptist either doesn't drink or makes an effort to hide his/her indulgence of alcohol. It won't get you kicked out of the church. It is just our official stand. The unofficial stance is a zipped lip on the topic.

Some people think that this culture is backwards but I disagree. I grew up around many reformed alcoholics that used the local Baptist Church as a refuge and an aid to protect himself from the life of pain that he once knew.

Not all people who drink become alcoholics but it does happen to some of them. The local Baptist Church is there to provide a culture and support group to keep him on the straight and narrow.

I'm not much of a connoisseur. Being too picky gets in the way of the real purpose of drinking. When I still lived in the states my go-to beer was a 40 oz of Steel Reserve. Yummy!

A joke told to me by a Deacon... how do you keep a Baptist from drinking all your beer if you take him fishing? Bring along a second Baptist- they will watch each other like a hawk! ;)

Awful. Almost no taste and terrible aftertaste. Yuck.

Surprisingly good for a lager (since I hate lagers). Nice citrus taste, no aftertaste, slight carbonation.

Yeech. The most interesting man in the world happens to have the least interesting beer in the world. No taste, slight carbonation.

Whatever I happen to brewing at the moment - right now it's an IPA that will be ready for my planned Fourth of July BBQ.

Also Stouts. My wife sometimes drinks a concoction of Guiness and condensed milk.

I've also been partial to Innes and Gunn's brews that are aged in scotch barrels.

Hmmm, interesting. Any tips for beginner brewers?

I'm still one myself. Been at it for a little over a year and this only my 4th batch. I haven't gotten past using a recipe and doing exactly what it says. So far just doing that the results have been better than I expected - except for my first batch which my son thought tasted just as good as Bud! Ugh. :)
