A friend of ours took some the advice of some stranger at a pet store to give her Great Danes goats milk to settle their stomachs. It killed one of them despite her rushing it to the vet when it started crying and the other survived with it's stomach pumped. She is overcome with guilt since she gave it to them.

While kittens can tolerate cows milk, no adult cats or dogs should have milk - cow's milk or goat's milk, particularly the latter. It causes their stomachs to bloat and the swelling cuts of blood supply to the intestines - which then kills that section of intestines.

Just thought I'd drop this tip.

Milk isn't really that good for humans either....

Kind of like not taking advice from anonymous know-it-alls on the internet who lie like snakes.

What about 2%? Or 1% Milk.

Re: Do NOT give your dogs and cats MILK

What about 2%? Or 1% Milk.

Do you realize that the percentage refers to the fat content?

Yeah and? Did you have a problem with the question Posh Puff? Did you think I might want him to explain some more, considering I have both type of animals that have lived with me most of my life.

You have had animals most of your life, but you don't know what not to feed them?

Know how to read? Check the Bolded. There should be no confusion whatsoever.....now!

Yes, I know how to read. Don't give the animals you have lived with most of your life any kind of milk.

Yeah.....no kidding. But you might want to pass that along to some of the younger people and as to why and what it does. Since you are here for the time being and Joko isnt'. Might help them out with that type of information. Just sayin!

I know what you mean. I tried giving one of my dogs milk, but right off the bat he wanted cereal to go with it. This is just one of the problems milk creates.

Now you are changing it to you doing a public service for young people like you knew already?

I'm not buying it, pal.

Don't give your dogs grapes, that includes 2% and 1%.

The beagle here loves beer. It's not good for him, but medical science hasn't dissuaded him yet. He also eats tomatoes and grapefruit. I understand that grapes can kill a dog. I think a lot of it depends on the breed. The lab here eats trees, sticks, stones, pine cones, poop, grass, paper, plastic, shoes, clothing, gloves especially, and probably some other crap I just don't know about yet.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled program..............

Yeah I know a couple of Pits that chew tires and metal too. That's not good for the teeth you know. Do you think we should stop giving them their vitamins.

That's interesting - I'm sorry to hear about the dogs suffering and one dying. Perhaps it was something to do with the particular milk or something wrong with it. I've given my dogs cheese for decades, different kinds - I find it helps with their bone structure and they love the taste. Since milk and cheese are not far removed from each other, I'm not sure what the problem would have been.

Yep. And get their teeth capped, too. A retired cop friend of mine told me they had a shepherd in Broward County, FL, on the force that had his canines replaced with stainless steel. Can you imagine seeing that coming at you? My dogs don't like grapes, anyway. They've told me they far and away prefer wine.

I give my cat half and half every day, and have for a few years. She waits by the refrig when she wants some. It must be different enough from milk to not cause problems? She's not going to be happy if I stop.

Re: Do NOT give your dogs and cats MILK

Seriously, some breeds of dogs are lactose intolerant.
