Do you use vinyl gloves when you cook sometimes?

I only wear gloves to handle hot peppers, to protect the rest of my skin (namely, my penis and testicles) more than my hands.

I am rather worried about your cooking routine now. I do not recall any recipes that call for Step 1: mix all ingredients Step 2) fondle yourself... or is that just a bit of love you give your recipes above and beyond what is called for?

As far as the OP question, no I do not wear gloves while cooking, my nails are always short and well manicured plus I wash before I start cooking and typically several times during the process of cooking - especially after handling proteins

And as a tip to Kevin.. soap and water will get rid of the capsaicin on your hands and prevent any misfortune caused by handling ;)

False. I was making picco di gailo and was done hacking up the jalepinos and cleaning them, had to do some other chores, washed my hands with soap and water, then moved on to wash the knife and cutting board...THEN went pee. Burning dick and balls ensued.

It mixes with the oils on your skin, gets under your finger nailed, and unless your using soap that removes ALL of the oils from your skin, you are not getting it all off. And I'd rather wear gloves than routinely remove all of the oil on my skin on my hands.

I started doing that about ten years ago. I mean, why doesn't everybody do that? Why make a meatloaf and clean your fingernails at the same time? Mix coleslaw? Stuff peppers? Make meatballs. Really.

I started doing that when I broke a fingernail making meatloaf and had to throw the whole batch out.

Why don't people use those vinyl surgical-like gloves?

I know people that swear by vinyl surgical-like gloves. But not for cooking.

I think maggie has ruined my appetite with her talk of finger nails in meat loaf. Guess what I WAS having for dinner tonight.

Well ... he WOULD do anything for love ...

I don't wear gloves when I prepare food ...
... But I do when I eat.

Same here...except for the burning dick and balls part. I rubbed my eyes after washing them...I imagine it was similar to being sprayed with pepper spray.

Yeah, I'll bet that felt freaking awesome...and once it's done, it's damn near impossible to undo.

Yeah..20 minutes of flushing my eyes with water and two days of swollen eyelids.

I was UBER attrative. LOL

I just made meat loaf. I did not wear gloves. I guess Maggie will be a no-show tonight for dinner.

Actually, the meat loaf is prepped for tomorrow night. Tonight is beef stroganoff.

I believe in the US the tolerance for acceptable legal levels of fecal matter in ground beef by weight is just under 1%.

IOWs, there's **** in your ground beef. So what is wearing gloves really protecting you from?

No I don't wear latex gloves for cooking. I do wash up and keep the prep area clean.

I grew up when gloves were not required at food places. Neither was stainless steel counter tops. My parents never wore any type of gloves, nor their parents. Made into my 60's and have not died yet.

Our societal obsession for cleanliness has reached absurdity.

Although I see your point if you have a cut or a problem with fingernails.
Yeah, you really should cover up a cut on your finger when mixing meat loaf with you hands. I use a band aid. Even if you have to keep putting a new band aid on while you're mixing it you've got to try to keep it covered.

You could open up a vein in the meatloaf, but as long as you cook it to a heat of at least 155 deg. F you won't need to worry about it.

If you have a cut, the problem isn't your cut contaminating the meat. It's the other way around.

Then be sure to cook your hand to 160 degrees as well.

So I shouldn't serve it raw as usual?

I set everything up (seasonings, etc, are all opened ahead of time or contents put into small bowls) and go in a prep order that permits me to use my left hand for handling raw meats after anything veggie or fruit is dealt with.

I only have to wash my hands once and nothing is contaminated.

I don't have long fingernails so that's not a concern. I do wear gloves if I've cut myself and need to wear a bandaid, though.

A guy I know wears gloves when he guts a deer. I think he must be gay.

A person should always wear gloves with gutting an animal due to the many diseases and parasites they carry, some particularly nasty. This is especially true for wild hogs.
