What Is Your Preferred Bread For A Sandwhich?

Ham and Swiss - seeded rye
Breakfast sandwich - croissant or fresh, hot egg bagel
Tuna - Italian white
Grilled cheese and ham - Italian white
Warm & Buttered - a real sourdough

I have found that, for most breads, a good bread maker takes all the guess work and hard work out of bread making. Since I don't like the crust from the bread maker, I bake the loaves off in the oven once all the other steps are complete.
I haven't ever tried using one of those machines. Personally I have very strong arms and dexterous hands (I'm a cement mason by trade and my hobbies include playing bass and guitar) so kneading bread dough isn't anything even remotely close to what I would consider to be "hard work". To me it's relaxing, not hard work.

Just my own taste buds speaking here, but to me rye bread is vastly overrated. Especially marbled rye. In mean, it's ok, and I'm not going to hack it up if eaten, but pretty much anything that is normally served on rye to me is much better on a good sourdough.

I've thought about getting a bread maker. How do they work?

They are awesome. We use ours all the time. It takes about the same amount of time to mix up a batch as it does for a pot of coffee to brew. Yesterday I made a loaf of multigrain bread with bread flour, whole wheat flour and granola cereal. We sliced it up and made french toast with it. I make one with beer, bacon, mustard and chives. I toast it and make sandwiches with my smoked ham. We use our breadmaker more often than the microwave. Italian herb bread to go with our homemade pasta sauces.... I could go on but you get the picture.

I've never liked rye bread unless it has seeds in it. Caraway or dill seeds.

I'm a huge bread lover, and that's bad for me because bread is bad for you unless you eat it in moderation, and I just can't do it. Give me a nice, hot, crusty loaf of Italian bread, or a light, fresh croissant, or a pannini made on focaccia, and fuggedabout it.

I won't ask what you weigh.
