I am looking for recommendations for easy rum drinks. I am a simple rum and coke kinda guy, but my girlfriend and I are going on a trip and she prefers sweet mixed drinks. Are there any simple recipes that yall can provide? I need simple stuff because we will be camping. I have no mixing experience...besides mixing my coke and my rum with some lime juice lol.

Daiquiri: Light rum; sugar syrup; lime juice. Too tart? Add more syrup. Too sweet? Add more lime juice. (Sugar syrup is 2 parts sugar, 1 part water. Dissolve the sugar in the boiling water. Keep on hand. You'll use it for lots of things.)

What kind of rum would I use? Light or dark?

Only 1 part? Lightweight.......

I am more a vodka and anything you got since it goes with everything or a Screw It Nothing Will Help It Taste Better So Give Me The Damn Tequilla Bottle kind of booze drinker.

Pretty much any fruit juice works with rum as does tonic with a squeeze of lime. Even a Pina Colada is easy....light rum, coco lopez and pineapple. The fixin's are probably on the same liquor shelf as the rum.

I recommend starting with a silver rum. Mount Gay is surprisingly good for a silver. lots of flavor. For me, the Mexican coca colas with just about any rum is on point, Mount Gay also goes well with regular Lipton tea and a good helping of honey. Mix the rum with the water before heating, then infuse the tea bag. (Do not try this with overproofed rum) Somehow cooking the rum in the water mellows the spirit in a way that you can use a lot without overpowering the other flavors. If all else fails, do shots and with a chaser of sweetened coconut milk.

You're probably cooking off some of the alcohol, I'd imagine.

Depends on the temperature. I keep it under 120F when cooking alcohol into it. I'm going to chill the brew anyway.

Dark and Stormy

Dark rum served with ginger beer, ice and a slice of lime

Something similar to what I occasionally drank at parties when I was younger.

Slurricane

1 part bacardi rum dark 151
1 part bacardi rum light
1 part triple sec
1 part grenadine
add pineapple juice and mix it all

Rum and I don't mix well. It's been years since we've been together. A few of shots of "Overproof" (151) and I'm slobbering and speaking in tongues. No thank you very much.
