    I quit coffee

Yep - I use to drink several pots a day. For over a year or two I've drunk just around 1 or 2 cups a day. I even went to instant - sometimes I didn't drink any at all. I pulled back due to dental issues, diet reasons - but also due the amount of money I put into the drinking habit. $15 - $25 / week for everything - geesh!

But then a few months ago my husband decided he wanted to start drinking. His way of compensating for lost energy due to his sleeping/heart condition. So he bought a coffee maker and a thermous - and ever since then we've gone through an enorous amount of coffee/sugar/creamer. I'm now buying huge containers of creamer - and it always runs out mid-week. This morning I went to go fix my cup and his thermous and there was only enough creamer for him. I was so pissed - I just quit right then.

That's that - I give it up completely.

Dental issues: Crest 3D tooth paste. Amazing stuff. I switched to it a few months ago and have noticed everyone in the house has much brighter teeth.

I couldn't give up coffee. I only have a cup or two a day, but it's so essential. Yes, I'm addicted to caffeine.

What kind of creamer do you guys use?

    Re: I quit coffee

i quit caffeinated coffee in November of 2010. there was some withdrawal, but it wasn't as bad as i expected. taper down might be advised.

at my peak, i was at around 12 to 14 cups a day. when i quit, it was about 5 cups a day.

    now i just drink decaf.

I'll just go completely to tea - Earl Grey, etc . . . no sugar / cream needed. So much more affordable, too.

    Re: I quit coffee

I drink an iced coffee (coffee, milk, sugar free vanilla flavoring) about 3 times a week. Ever so often on the weekends I'll have a cup or two, depending on how quickly I need to be up and alert that day.

I definitely notice a difference on the weekdays when I don't get any coffee.

In fact ,consumption of large amounts of coffee may cause some health problems such as constipation ,cellulite and stress but on the other hand ,drinking coffee may prevent you from getting alzheimer and reduce the risk of heart disease.

    Re: I quit coffee

that caffeine withdrawal headache you may be experiencing right now should go away within about three days
do NOT give in to it

gave up sodas two years ago this month. like you, cold turkey
thought it would be impossible since i drank between eight and ten liters daily
it was actually very easy ... once the headache subsided
but i kept waiting on the weight loss
then i figured that i had just substituted fruit sugar for that G-d awful stuff they put in colas
but about four months later the steady weight loss began happening (over 20 pounds)

only problem now is that i have a fruit juice AND ice cream addiction

    Re: I quit coffee

When I used to work nights I had a bit of a coffee issue. Was up to about a pot and a half a day. Nowadays about 3-4 cups a day, which is still a little over the recommended amount. I once tried to quit just after I got off the nights and I thought I was having an aneurysm. It was the worst headache I have ever had. If I quit now it probably wouldn't be as bad, but I can still feel the occasional need for a cup if I haven't had my usual amount. Sometimes a little headachey, and just general tired bleh feeling.
