    I am actually losing weight for a change

    My doctor put me on a diet and at least for me, when a professional tells me I must do something, it carries more weight on me than my own decision about it.

    What he told me was to stop eating bread and potatos, and focus on meat and plant matter. (I believe it is called the akins diet)

    However, over the last three weeks, I am down two pant sizes. Even better, this diet is easy as there is plenty of yummy nonbread things in the world. Second, this doesn't require much in the way of special planning. I just replace bread or potato based side dishes with something else, such as cheesy brocali. Thirdly, there are plenty of things at restaurants I can eat with no special fuss.

    I like stuff that requires no work since I am already a very busy person.

    Of course weight loss will slow down, the first few pounds are always the easiest, but this is something I think I can actually do and maintain discipline on (and I am bad with discipline when it comes to food)

    Losing weight is just about calories, do whatever works for you.

    No. That is not the Atkins diet. The Atkins diet limits carbohydrates based on your body's reactions while also controlling calories, salt and fat. However, if you are just eliminating potatoes and bread you are really just eliminating sugar. Both are very high in sugar and we all know how sugar turns food into fat. Most likely your doctor determined you are eating the proper calories but to much sugar. Keep it up!

    Reduction of calories and increase burning them through exercise is the best and healthiest way to do it...

    complex carbs =/= simple carbs. In fact, there's a huge difference. Ever notice, on the nutritional information it will tell you how much of the carb content is sugar? There's a reason for that.

    I lost 4 pounds last week on the 'I'm getting my youngest married off and have turned into a blur without time to eat' diet. I've been eating most Mediterranean foods for a while and losing about 1 pound (1/2 KG) a week. Really high fiber, mostly low fat and many, many servings of veggies and fruit daily. I'm down about 40 pounds

    I'm on another version of your diet, Frolicking Dinosaurs. Mine's the mother of the groom diet. It sounds like you are doing great!
