Re: Back Button weirdness

Okay, I think I figured it out. (Hey, there's a reason I'm a software tester... I figure **** out. )

There's a google syndicated ad that's giving a "page not found". For some reason, the browser sees that as a separate page. As I can see it, the only time one would have this issue is if they see ads.

Try this check next time it happens: Hit the forward button and check out the right hand side of the screen for an ad that's giving a "page not found". Betcha they'll be one. Notice that when you hit your back button once, and hover over the Forward button, it says "Forward to Page Not Found".

So how do you fix it. You're right--that's what it says...

I don't think there's anything a user can do to fix it. Either google fixes their ad, or the admins here remove the defunct ad from the sidebar.

Re: Back Button weirdness

If you make a donation to DP, you have an option to not view ads. That would solve the problem.

I'm having this problem as well.

Or you could do that, yeah. And stay logged in all the time. The only reason I noticed the issue is because I'm rarely ever actually logged in at work unless I'm posting.

That doesn't explain why only ONE of the computers that I use demonstrates this issue...or would it???

Well, I noticed it on my work computer, but not my home computer. The difference being that my home computer stays logged in 24/7. My work computer's settings won't allow me to hold cookies that long and all temp files and cookies are deleted regularly. So, I'm not often logged into the site on my work computer. In my case, it's not a difference in the computers, it's just a difference in whether or not I stay logged in.

Having said that, however, if one's logging in behavior (to the same account) is the same on both computers, and both computers have the same browser, then I would expect the same behavior from the defunct google ad and browser forward/back buttons.

If you can see the defunct ad, you're going to have the back button weirdness most likely. Whether that's because you're logged in and don't donate, or because you're not logged in - and regardless of what computer you're on. The only thing I can really see changing the behavior would be browser types and/or versions. I'm using IE6 here at work and I notice the issue when I'm not logged in.
