RE: The "Thanks" feature.

For as many times as I come across an insightful and/or funny post that I'd like to acknowledge with some thanks, there are at least 3 or 4 that are truly ignorant and deserving of ridicule. I think there should be a no-thanks alternative to the thankyou feature to let people know when they're being stupid.

Just sayin...

Re: The "Thanks" feature.

I don't think I agree... The Thanks button is a nice, fun little positive feature. I think the forum is great with it, but if they implemented a no thanks button it might cause a lot of trouble, especially in an election year. Plus the regular forums are supposed to be civil, and if they put that button in, it would be an invitation to attack, cause people would want to know why they got it from somebody.

Of course if they do want to put it in, it's ok IMHO, but I just think it's not needed, and the Thanks is just fine by itself.

I see your point, however I counter with this: If we had such a feature, people could simply click it rather than crafting a lengthy, scathing response. The kind that often kicks off a flame war.

Just sayin...

Re: The "Thanks" feature.

Yep true, I'm not exactly opposed to it, but I was just thinking about what's been going on in the forum lately, you know? Everybody's trying to calm down and stuff. But oh well, just my take on it. ^^

The scathing responses would still be crafted notwithstanding.

Re: The "Thanks" feature.

I was thinking of this thread

http://www.debatepolitics.com/feedba...challenge.html (Captain's Challenge.....)

I don't participate in the elections too much, but I was just thinking about what would happen if the bad stuff that was said is going on in this thread met the No Thanks button, the forums might explode or something, lol.

I don't really know much about it, but I'm just saying that since it's an election year and everybody seems on edge, it might not be a good time to put that in.

With all the crap that some people post here I would break the "no thanks" button...

Its been discussed before, and it just doesn't fly as far as creating a place of civil debate(at least upstairs). A no thanks button, would simply serve as a tool against each other. Thats not to say that we cannot have our divisions and disagreements, but I don't personally feel that we need to reinforce those divisions by creating a button that is used for negative purposes. If you disagree with somebody, its best you emulate just why you disagree with them. That is what creates discussion, which increases our knowledge and experience. "Thanks" kind of work in the opposite way. While you are welcome to thank a post, and add further commentary to it, using the thanks button is a way to cut down on repetitive ideas from clogging up a thread unecessarily, while still acknowledging or affirming your stance.
