I'm such a whore. | Actually, the moderation team wants to employ a communist style system for the thanks feature. Everybody will be meeted out the same amount of thanks to give each day, but you might want to be at the front of the line. You know, just in case....

Thats not to say that we cannot have our divisions and disagreements, but I don't personally feel that we need to reinforce those divisions by creating a button that is used for negative purposes. If you disagree with somebody, its best you emulate just why you disagree with them. That is what creates discussion, which increases our knowledge and experience. "Thanks" kind of work in the opposite way. While you are welcome to thank a post, and add further commentary to it, using the thanks button is a way to cut down on repetitive ideas from clogging up a thread unecessarily, while still acknowledging or affirming your stance. | I agree to a large extent hence the thanks , but i feel its also open to abuse by the "Back slappers" and "suck ups" who can on occasion use it as a form of "pack mentality". But on a positive note, as has been mentioned above it stops people just repeating, but it also increases the size of the brow beating stick! by a collective response [in circumstances of arguments/partisanship]. I suppose some people feel safety in numbers and being part of crowd can give them popularity and legitimacy. Of course this is not always the case.
So i in fact see a case for positive/negative feedback even with the obvious trends of abuse waiting to be exposed.
Paul.

And that of course begs the question...why the heck not? Thanking someone for a creative and tasty flame should be encouraged for crying out loud!

In the basement it could develop into actual "gang warfare" with thanks as weapons. |
