this is the first debate forum that I've joined. I'm a fresh college grad and my age group hasn't quite gotten into debating politics yet, so I've been going at it with my dad and would like some fresh perspectives.

A bit about me; I was raised Roman Catholic, realized I was an atheist while at college. I love discussing science and philosophy, and social issues can really get me going. As far as politically, I would say I'm libertarian with a left lean, I'm not too fond of either party in particular just usually go for the lesser of two evils in my opinion.

My name is Scott, and I've been debating online since I was in my early teens. I developed a lot of who I am now through my interactions online -- I became an atheist online, I came out as gay first online, etc. When debating, I like to examine the issue from as many angles as possible, like the basis in current law, the motivations of both sides, a utilitarian point of view, and on and on. I think that empirical evidence like why each side is participating in the debate has a place in the debate itself, if not the most important place.

I like to debate primarily gay rights issues and religious issues. I'm less sure of my positions on issues like marijuana and abortion. I find politics to be somewhat boring, given that both sides are pretty bad. I will always vote Democrat though, because I despise the Republican positions on social issues, and their religious motivations. I do like to discuss economics, and studied it for two years.

As for my interests, I'm currently a computer science major in college. I love programming and gaming. My main addiction is to Starcraft 2 - I play Zerg, currently Diamond in 1v1 and moving up. I also co-develop one of the top custom games on Starcraft 2, Aeon of Storms. I enjoy certain animes and TV shows. Generally only the ones that have strong plots, not the more serial shows. Stuff like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I chose the name Wrath because he was possibly my favorite character in FMA:B.

Anyways, that's pretty much everything worth saying right now. I look forward to meeting and debating all of you. :)

I'm a human being. I was born in the UK, though have been living in Asia for the past ten years or so. Over the past few years my political beliefs have undergone a drastic overhaul, and I now subscribe to schools of thought most commonly associated with Voluntaryism. I don't believe in Left vs Right, I think the whole thing is a giant "coke vs pepsi" type scam. I believe in non aggression, self ownership, and personal responsibility.

I joined the forum partly to get some feedback on a personal manifesto that I'm working on, and also simply because I saw a few nice threads here where people with lots of different views were being civilized to each other, which is a disappointingly rare feature of online communities these days, and I felt was probably a good sign.

(I have another word for 'harsh', but don't want to be banned on my first day here). I am one to tell it like I see it. With that said, I take most things 'with a grain of salt'. I have been through/ seen a lot in my 28 years on this planet, but have barely scraped the surface of my life's existence. Possibly, and I implore you to do the same to my own views. As that is what good discussion is made up of. That is what I am here for, to discuss a variety of topics that encompass the entire forum. I also hope to create connections within the political sphere that encompasses this Forum, and to develop those connections into whatever they could become.

My name is Shane and I'm from Sydney Australia!

I've been actively interested in politics since university (over 10 years ago now! Argg so old!) and had many interesting political discussions over the years, studied interesting things, and been generally keeping up with many political topics - but never really engaged with political discussions online. So the online forum - and even the political blog platform - is all quite foreign to me!

I am here now because I am working on a startup which has built an app which connects rebuttal articles to the pages they rebut, so that whenever someone visits the rebutted page, they get an alert which says "There is a rebuttal to this page". Now this in itself isn't related to politics - it will work for all pages of any subject - but I think it could have a particularly powerful impact in the political realm as people will be able to get multiple contrary arguments for any political subject, rather than spoon fed one perspective from their selected news source/blog/social website.

Anyway, that is what brings me here, I'm trying to figure out how to best go about talking to engaged online political participants! All thoughts, feedback and ideas would be really appreciated. Also, if I could chat with a mod or two about the best way to go about perhaps starting a thread specifically for discussion about my project, that would be great!

I don't aim for anything formal, but I have some very specific and fundamental questions to ask and I prefer a person to person interaction to keep the coherency intact. I tried to have this on the General Political Discussion Section but I feel that it may be too difficult for me to answers many people at once especially when their views aren't the same.

I prefer an open VM exchanges though I don't mind using any other suggested methods.
