Watergate was a political scandal in which the DNC offices in DC were broken into and President Nixon and his administration attempted to cover it up. The IRS scandal involves the government in the form of the IRS going after American Citizens including groups, organizations, and individual citizens based on their political or religious ideology. If a smoking gun is found that directly ties the president to this he must be impeached. If however he was kept in the dark those who kept it from the president must be fired. There is evidence that officials in the white house knew about this in June 2012, during the campaign. Those who were directly involved must go to prison. This is huge and every American regardless of their political persuasion should demand that heads roll. This scandal could be the catalyst that lights a fire under our politicians asses to rewrite the tax code and abolish the IRS. Just think what a flat tax or national sales tax would do for our economy. And another thing, most people are afraid to talk about the IRS because their worried that they too will be targeted. We should not have to be afraid of our government on the other hand the government should fear us. WE ARE THE PEOPLE!

So this is a simple question. Is the IRS scandal worse than Watergate?

Obama is the slowest deficit spender since I was born, at 1.4% annualized growth of government spending, which includes his stimulus spending.

So for those that say Obama is socialist, try to keep in perspective that he is the most right wing economically speaking president in the last 35 years, probably longer than that since this piece doesn't go back much further.

Keep in mind that we are talking about rate of annualized growth in deficit spending, not deficit increases, which includes revenue.

I shouldn't say deficit spender, since that includes revenue. I should have just said spender. In case anyone gets nitpicky with my wording :)

If you followed Schiff's advice and shorted the housing market, you would have lost lots of money, instead of making money.

The broken clock fallacy occurs when you say something repeatedly and often enough and eventually it comes true. If you say the same time 24 hours of the day you are correct twice a day but wrong 22 other hours of the day, hence the fallacy.

He started these predictions in 2000, when the housing market boomed. So if you didn't invest at this time you lost out on a tremendous opportunity.

His company is a pyramid scheme and his advice loses people lots and lots of money.

So it seems that after blowing up part of texas nature (or god) came along and decided to help out by sending a bunch of tornadoes into the same area. When texas comes a beggin for financial help to fix up the area should we tell them to man up and fix the problem themselves, sort of like how they wanted to do to sandy victims? We are not a charity, and paying for things like this will just lead to a dependence on the federal government and an addiction to welfare according to some of the congressional opponents of Sandy relief from the great and strong state of texas. We would just be weakening the independence and strength of the texas people whos lives were destroyed by these events by helping them out in their time of need. They value their ability to pick themselves up by their bootstraps after a tragedy and to go on surviving and our liberal welfare state which comes in with federal aid for rebuilding and things like food, shelter, and other assistance will only destroy the don't mess with texas independence they value so much.

So should we take the advice of texans and just let them be in their time of need so they can learn how to survive after such huge tragedies, or should we be compassionate and give them a hand even after they were so selfish and tried to deny a hand to the northeast? Perhaps we should offer the assistance and let them decide whether or not is is something they wish for the federal government to provide for people of disasters. They could always man up and say no thank you to the offer of help and show the rest of us how real men handle natural disasters.

... In April last year, the Obama campaign identified by name eight Romney donors as “a group of wealthy individuals with less than reputable records. Quite a few have been on the wrong side of the law, others have made profits at the expense of so many Americans, and still others are donating to help ensure Romney puts beneficial policies in place for them.” That week, Kimberley Strassel began her Wall Street Journal column thus:

Try this thought experiment: You decide to donate money to Mitt Romney. You want change in the Oval Office, so you engage in your democratic right to send a check.

Several days later, President Barack Obama, the most powerful man on the planet, singles you out by name. . . . The message from the man who controls the Justice Department (which can indict you), the SEC (which can fine you), and the IRS (which can audit you), is clear: You made a mistake donating that money.

Miss Strassel wrote that on April 26, 2012. Five weeks later, one of the named individuals, Frank VanderSloot, was informed by the IRS that he and his wife were being audited. In July, he was told by the Department of Labor of an additional audit over the guest workers on his cattle ranch in Idaho. In September, he was notified that one of his other businesses was to be audited. Mr. VanderSloot, who had never previously been audited, attracted three in the four months after being publicly named by el Presidente. More to the point he attracted that triple audit even though Miss Strassel explicitly predicted in America’s biggest-selling newspaper that this was exactly what the Obama enforcers were going to do. The “separate, sinister entity” of the government of the United States went ahead anyway. What do they care? If some lippy broad in the papers won’t quit her yapping about it, they can always audit her, too — as they did to Miss Strassel’s sometime colleague Anne Hendershott, a sociology professor who got rather too interested in Obamacare and wrote about it in the Journal and various small Catholic publications. The IRS summoned Professor Hendershott to account for herself, and forbade her husband from accompanying her, even though they filed jointly. She ceased her political writing...

Mr. VanderSloot is big enough, just about, to see off the most powerful government on the planet. Most of those who’ve caught the eye of the IRS share nothing in common with him other than his political preferences. They’re nobodies — ordinary American citizens guilty of no crime except that of disagreeing with the ruling party. Yet they were asked, under “penalty of perjury,” to disclose the names of books they were reading and provide the names and addresses of relatives who might be planning to run for public office — a kind of pre-enemies list. Is that banana-republic enough for you yet?...

A civil “civil service” requires small government. Once government is ensnared in every aspect of life a bureaucracy grows increasingly capricious. The U.S. tax code ought to be an abomination to any free society, but the American people have become reconciled to it because of a complex web of so-called exemptions that massively empower the vast shadow state of the permanent bureaucracy. Under a simple tax system, your income is a legitimate tax issue. Under the IRS,everything is a legitimate tax issue: The books you read, the friends you recommend them to. There are no correct answers, only approved answers.

The number of religious groups reporting they were improperly targeted by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is increasing.

At least a half-dozen conservative groups say they received an unusual degree of scrutiny from the IRS, according to the Religion News Service, a non-profit news service operated out of the University of Missouri’s journalism school.

Earlier this week Rev. Billy Graham’s son made headlines with a letter to President Obama accusing the administration of targeting the Samaritan’s Purse charity and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in an attempt to intimidate the group.

Since then, the Catholics United Education Fund and the Christian Voices for Life have reported significant delays in their applications for tax-exempt status from the IRS.

The Coalition for Life of Iowa also said that it took unusually long to receive their tax exempt status, according to the Thomas More Society, a non-profit group focused on supporting pro-life causes.

At a House hearing investigating the IRS abuses on Friday, Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) called attention to The Coalition for Life of Iowa’s complaint, citing one particular question that the group was asked by the agency.

“Their question, specifically asked from the IRS to the Coalition for Life of Iowa: ‘Please detail the content of the members of your organization’s prayers. Would that be an inappropriate question to a 501 c3 applicant? The content of one’s prayers?” asked Schock of the IRS’s former acting commissioner, Steven Miller.

And Miller said he couldn't say, not knowing the context of the investigation. Which brings one to ask, under what conceivable context would such a question ever be appropriate for the IRS to ask?

There's an old adage too as I recall, that states that the proof of ownership lies in the right and ability to sell. That is, if you aren't allowed to sell something, then it really isn't yours. This would be expected to extend to one's person as well, I should think.

In passing I'll just mention that I think many, possibly most people would be content as slaves, so long as they were well cared for and weren't called a slave. This would explain a great deal about popular political movements.

Having talked about New Atheism - The Religion of New Atheism - which was co-founded by Dawkins, Harris, Dennett, and Hitchens, my "fascination" with Dawkins had prompted me to create a thread in his honor.
This man no doubt caught the attention of atheists - and religious people - all over the world with his radical style of expressing his views, and his call for followers to rise up. He's keen on declaring war.

FEMA did a terrible job coordinating the rescue effort with local authorities in New Orleans, and both were unprepared and out-matched for the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

As we know, the IRS targeted conservative groups for special scrutiny, and despite many in the agency being aware of this practice, nobody spoke out to put a stop to it.

Much like the FEMA fiasco, the IRS scandal is a classic example of a dense bureaucracy failing to quickly and decisively address a major problem.

If the failure of the government's response during Hurricane Katrina was all blamed on Bush--as though he literally cooked up the storm himself, why is Obama not responsible for any these recent scandals?

Can he really deflect all blame to his subordinates and claim he "wasn't aware" of anything?

Is that a defense that would have worked for George Bush?

Of course he is. Haven't you heard? The new Benghazi emails totally vindicate Rice's talking points, so she really deserves a promotion and an apology. (They don't, and she doesn't, but who can be bothered with such picayune details when there are incompetent apparatchiks to reward for their unswerving loyalty?) Get ready for National Security Advisor Susan Rice, America:

Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is likely to be tapped as the next National Security Advisor, according to a report in Foreign Policy. The report quotes a pair of sources who said that Rice will inevitably succeed current National Security Advisor Tom Donilon whenever he leaves the post. "It's definitely happening," one source said.

If he follows through on this decision, Obama gets to thank a hack for her commitment to the cause (ie, him) while raising a middle finger at Republicans. I know this woman is one of the public faces of a scandal you guys care about, and here's that I think about that. You can't stop me. One-time Obama admirer Peggy Noonan's latest scathing column indicates that she's long gone from the bandwagon. She identifies one of the self-defeating flaws of this president: Arrogance, and the reported Rice promotion is a case in point. Noonan argues that Obama's extreme self-regard and sense of invincibility has poisoned and pervaded his administration, and is finally -- to quote a certain man of the cloth -- "comin' home...to roost:

"We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, probably irretrievably damaged. They don't look jerky now, they look dirty. The patina of high-mindedness the president enjoyed is gone. Something big has shifted. The standing of the administration has changed. As always it comes down to trust. Do you trust the president's answers when he's pressed on an uncomfortable story? Do you trust his people to be sober and fair-minded as they go about their work? Do you trust the IRS and the Justice Department? You do not. The president, as usual, acts as if all of this is totally unconnected to him. He's shocked, it's unacceptable, he'll get to the bottom of it. He read about it in the papers, just like you. But he is not unconnected, he is not a bystander. This is his administration. Those are his executive agencies. He runs the IRS and the Justice Department. A president sets a mood, a tone. He establishes an atmosphere. If he is arrogant, arrogance spreads. If he is to too partisan, too disrespecting of political adversaries, that spreads too.".....snip~

It appears Obama is going to give Rice a Promotion. NSA Security Chief. Talk about a major delusion. This is the same screw up that created all the crap over Darfur and Somalia. Now she comes out and does the same exact thing for Benghazi. The UN Security Council Ambassadors were mocking her and laughing at. Lavrov out right humiliated her. Republicans should get the point across with the MSMedia. How can you promote one who to this position who has no idea as to what she is doing? She has been a major screw up in every Administration she has worked with. Someone needs to remind Obama about his own words o doing the same thing over. I mean come Right directly with this one. Rice is not qualified for such a position. Obama if anything needs to hand her those walking papers and point to which pasture she should set off in. Kick back and chew that cow gumi. This is a joke and so is Susan Rice.

The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon has appointed Haile Menkerios as new Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) and his Special Representative to the African Union at the level of Under-Secretary-General.
Menkerios, a South African, will also continue his current assignment as the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan.
He replaces Zachary Muburi-Muita, whose assignment ends next month.
Ki-moon, in a statement, said he was grateful to Muburi-Muita for his “dedicated” service with UNOAU, since its establishment in 2010 and for “deepening the African Union-United Nations strategic partnership”.
The South African reportedly brings to the position extensive experience in African issues and with the UN, having served in various positions within the world body.
Prior to his appointment as Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan in July 2011, Menkerios, served as Special Representative and Head of the UN Mission in Sudan since 1 March 2010 and Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs from 2007-2010.

Previously, he also held various positions with the UN in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in addition to his role as senior adviser to the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to the Inter-Congolese Dialogue in 2002.
Born in 1946, Menkerios, who holds a masters degree from Harvard University, also represented the Government of Eritrea in various capacities, including as Ambassador to Ethiopia and the Organisation of African Unity, Special Envoy to Somalia and also to the Great Lakes region, and as Permanent UN Representative.
Meanwhile, the UN chief has appointed Aichatou Mindaoudou Souleymane as his Special Representative for Côte d’Ivoire and Head of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI).
Mindaoudou, who hails from Niger, replaces Albert Gerard (Bert) Koenders from the Netherlands.
Ki-moon, in a statement issued Friday, said he was grateful for the dedicated service Koenders offered, during his time with the UN.
Born in 1959, Mindaoudou, who holds a PhD in International Law, reportedly brings to the position more than 20 years of experience and a distinguished career in the Niger government.
