Under your concept of Socialism, EVERY Country in the World that has some form of Taxation is by definition partly Socialist, this includes the USA.
Let me explain.
A Nation Taxes it's income earning populace, with that money it Gives some to Farmers, Oil Industry, Scientific institutes etc etc.
I daresay I have left out hundreds of groups that the US Government gives money to.
However my point is that they take the money from johnny to give to Farmer
Jeremy.
Shucks they even give Farmer Jeremy money to NOT use his land to produce food or any agricultural product, in effect to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Seems kind of crazy to me, but then I guess just being a johnny and not a Jeremy, someone somewhere can make sense of all of it.
Now, do I have my understanding under your terms as to what a Socialist Government is?
I understood already! Point is, its socialism. Perhaps you don't know who I am, (Ron Paul voter here <_<)I'm against everything socialist, NHS, taxes, SS, everything. Likewise, I may not be able to do anyhting about it, but I am still against.

That's the method in which every single insurance company in the world works - don't hear you screaming foul there.
As is the instance with funding of public national infrastructures. Scamming DW out of his money to build levees for John Doe in Louisiana.
Not to mention the fact that you are comparing Obama to the Soviet Union. By your arguments then nearly every single country in the world is then part of the USSR.

You might as well add "nation" to that list.

Sheesh, I mention NHS is socialism, and now for some reason, you don't think I mind anything else such as insurance, or taxes. I do. I mentioned NHS as an example.
Don't talk to me about insurance, its a scam. If I pay $500 a month, and I don't get into a car accident, in one year, that is $6,000 down the drain that I could have used on oh... an XPS Computer.

A nation doesn't have to have socialism to be a nation.

And Obama is just goign to lead us farther to a Soviet-like country. NHS, a furthur debt, nationalized industries, and an economy gone down the drain, and to top it all off, high taxes.

When the income tax was first implented, the opposition's greatest fear was that it would reach 1%. Now look, taxes is roughly 33%, is there ever going to be a line drawn saying taxes WILL NOT BY ANYMEANS GET THIS HIGH? and if so, where? 40%? 50%? 80%?

The one you described went bankrupt nearly returning power back to the British.
A functional nation requires a functional government. For there to be a functional government it must have some form of income to offset the costs.

The "I don't use it so why should I pay for it" mentality is utter rubbish. Police, fireman, emergency response, military, national infrastructure all require money.
The system you've described where there's no income tax, no governmental grants, none of that can not be a functional government can not be a functional nation and ultimately will implode. Hence anarchy.
