Why does the UK continue to stand out as the poor man of Europe? | Britain is not a poor country by anyone's standards. Of course the number of pensioners living below the poverty line has risen. When you have recession, inflation, and low interest rates then people who live on a fixed income are going to suffer. I'm willing to bet that it is not only Britain who has seen a rise in the number of pensioners living below the poverty line. Have you looked at numbers in other countries throughout Europe? |

| Don't bet! Present something in support. That table 2 demonstrates our dreadful record for elderly poverty after all. I know of no evidence to suggest the international comparisons have shifted

I think the elderly should not have to pay council tax, which is a rip off. Northern Ireland doesnt have to pay council tax .

It then indirectly promotes poverty via the support of income immobility? |

Why does the UK continue to stand out as the poor man of Europe? | How much did population increase, did the % of those under the poverty line change?

| What proportion of our population is elderly? Compare that to continental European countries. |
