Spanish police found videos at the home of a suspected jihadist detained this week showing armed men in front of an image of a central Madrid square where thousands will celebrate New Year's Eve, judicial sources revealed on Friday.

A judicial source who refused to be named added there were "images showing men with hoods, weapons, in front of the Puerta del Sol."

Madrid for one has taken unprecedented measures that include using bollards and police vans on roads near the famous Puerta del Sol square where Spaniards gather for New Year's Eve, to guard against truck attacks like those that hit Nice and Berlin.

A possible New Years attack may have been uncovered in Madrid. Great work to investigators there.

If you're going to be in Europe for New Year's, will you take any added precaution regarding possible terrorist attacks?

So I should let the terrorist win by being afraid and paranoid of a possible maybe attack? Hell no.. screw em, nothing will be different.

I know that place in Madrid; was at the Apple Store at one end. Had a coffee next door and crossed the square a number of times, when I was in town this Summer.

As to parties in the open? The risk probably isn't large. Personally I prefer private parties.

The probabilities are low. Right now the math says it is safer than crossing a street to party on the New Years square.

Some like to create fear. You can include hate as well, and for both, they need an identifiable group.
 
Spreading the terror message is what some sympathisers are all about.

You know, it's really outrageous and unforgivable that some people demand that Europe accept and live with terrorism now. History will view them similarly to how we view those who were afraid to stand up to Nazis.
