Believe it or not the rest of the world does not have as bad of relations with Cuba as the US.

At least my nation's leader isn't saddened by the death of The Bearded Dictator. Birds of a feather, I guess.

Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on the death of former Cuban President Fidel Castro | Prime Minister of Canada

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the death of former Cuban President Fidel Castro:

“It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest serving President.

Collective kool-aid I'm afraid.

Well they have no reason to have bad relations, for most countries it is just a place where their citizens go for a sunny Caribbean vacation. Cuba only really only really butts heads with the US.

They are showing their stripes worldwide!!

Liberalism is doomed..

Cuba had the bad grace to turn away from being an American millionaire's playground. Nothing Cuba or Castro have ever done can be allowed to be seen as positive, you only have to look at how many Americans claim it was US sanctions and policy that led to freedom in Southern Africa.

No idea how the thread title in any way reflects what Juncker said.

Make 'em up as we go along, eh?

I don't understand either. "Milktoast" statement at best.

Never understood why America still made such a fuss about Cuba, even after the Iron Curtain fell. Nostalgia perhaps?

Don't get me wrong, its regime is an ugly dictatorship... but so is China's, or Saudi Arabia's, or various others. And Americans are rather pragmatic about those.

Perhaps you can simply do better without good cigars, than without good oil. :p

In fact it remains mysterious (to go back to the claim in the thread title) how Juncker's "address" could be so misconstrued by the OP.

Where does it show that he is a communist sympathiser? It is a statement without conclusions or opinion, yet every word is correct. That is called diplomacy I believe. He was a hero for many. This doesn't mean that he think he is a hero. He did change the course of his country, but he does not say whether this is for better or worse. And he was one of the revolutionary figures of the 20th century and you can not get around that either I believe. And the last statement actually shows that he does not show his personal opinion regarding Castro and is therefore his best comment of all; His legacy will be judged by history. Again a very true statement.

Reading what is being written without drawing conclusion based on what was not written will make life a lot less complicated.

Joey.

Fully agree. The man had thousands of his countrymen and women....executed.

A clue to bad things happening in a country, is when boat people attempt to escape in a mass exodus. A no brainer!

They should...but much of the world are a bunch of socialist idiots !

See The Beast thread under Latin America.
