German courts approve the Sharia police

The Guardian: A German court has ruled that a group of Islamists did not break the law in forming “sharia police” street patrols and telling people to stop drinking, gambling and listening to music.

Judges said there could only be a violation of the law – originally aimed against street movements such as the early Nazi party – if the uniforms were “suggestively militant or intimidating”, a court spokesman said.

According to the judges, "Sharia police" is not intimidating and is not impersonating police forces. Yay. If German medias report this (will they?), I guess that AfD will gain two points thanks to those judges.

Are these patrols made up of last year's refugees? Didn't take them long to start taking over, did it?

Really? You didn't see the big bold "POLICE" on their uniforms?

Its a freaking high visibility vest.. not a uniform. Much to do about nothing as usual from the anti-Muslim crowd.

How would you evaluate a "warning vest" bearing the letters "Polizei" in your neck of the woods? Or, to demonstrate the ridiculousness of your assertion, "полиция" ?

You will not find the word "police" on any German uniform, simply because..............well............errh...........ummh.....

.................it's not German.

This must be an all German-Muslim cover band of the Police then:

The guy in the middle must be the singer.

"sending out an SOS, don't leave the house in a low cut dress" chicka bow wow

Yes, thanks. But now that they've been ruled legal, will they continue? Grow to more areas?
The German equivalent of the DA can still appeal this. The court already turned this down in December of 2015 and it found appeal then already (that's why it landed here now). So it may find another appeal.

The court here found (justifiably methinks) that impersonating law enforcement bodies (a crime in Germany and mostly everywhere else) takes more than wearing an orange coloured "disaster" vest that all German motorists are compelled to carry in their car anyway (and must don when involved in an accident or only just a breakdown and leaving their car).

"Police" is not a German word anyway, printed on any garment it certainly doesn't signify Polizei.

One can run around wearing an original FBI vest or a DEA one in Germany and the only failing would be looking like an idiot.

The "ringleader" was incidentally not hauled into court because he's busy. Defending himself against charges of terrorism in front of another court in Düsseldorf.

Real meat, so to speak.

He's the one currently in court in Düsseldorf on terrorist charges.

Sven Lau.

I added lyrics to their cover of SOS. Catchy?
Somehow "YMCA" comes to (my) mind. Or "In the navy".

Come to think of it, they look a lot like garbage collectors (at least those wore orange vests in Germany years ago and maybe still do). There's bound to be a song in there somewhere.

Someone should start an ***hole Police, where they follow the Shariah Police and remind them that Germans don't like nosy busybodies.

Germany's proficiency in English is second to only England I believe (they beat us here in the States!). Germans won't be confused as to the meaning of 'police'. The Sharting Police probably chose the English spelling to avoid prosecution. Clever.

Well now, that's good news and bad news all at once. Informative though Chagos. Wtg.

:lamo I'd love to see a Shariah Garbage collector dress like that! They can wag a disapproving finger at ham bones in the trash.

Freedom of Speech! Let us not be misledby the name 'Sharia Police'. Let us take it for what it is. It Is a demonstration of people who want to reflect their view and ask people to join them in their view. They have the right to do so regardless of how despicable their views may be. Yes, Sharia is not something many people appreciate in the west or anywhere else in the world for that matter. But they did not look like police nor did they look and/or act threatening and intimidating. All a judge does is make a judgement based on the interpretation of the law. And this therefore is the right judgement. If you disagree, the question should really be whether or not the law should be changed. And that would be a very interesting subject, but out of scope for this thread.

Yeah well, that wasn't what the court was concerned with.

Oh sure, they're very knowledgeable when it comes to pushing the envelope.

Nevertheless the court also cited one witness who had thought the whole thing was a (eve before wedding) bachelor party.

Thing is that they did not accost anyone aggressively by all accounts, so the whole thing appears to have been more of a PR gag.

On the realization that wearing a "Hell's Angels" tunic is not against the law either, that does have me fantasizing feverishly though over the two groups having a get-together.

Yup, in a nutshell.

Legalities, not emotions.

nice misleading thread title.

The court "approved" nothing, it ruled on whether a misdemeanor was committed or not. German media reported on this to the point of it making it onto national TV

i am throwing this in to make people do some thinking.

so if we have christian going around on the streets, telling people to not commit adultery, or be gay, transgender.

would the people being told this say "wells it just their free speech", ...the fact is they would be mad as h@ell.

The fact that they carry the word "police" and that "police" is inherently intimidating, two legal reasons to ban them according to the German law. This should really be common sense for anyone: you don't call yourself "police".
Yeah, as I already pointed out, in Germany you call yourself "Polizei". And best wear something that looks like their garb and not something that everybody is compelled to carry around in their car.

Common sense for anybody indeed.

Yes, sure some people would be mad. This, after all, is the reason why this went to court in the first place. I remember having given some Jehova Witnesses a very hard time when they knocked my door. But at the end of the day the judge has spoken, and I'm afraid that he did make the right decision.

At least these new police have no real power or germany would be in real trouble

Makes me wanna go to Germany, find their neighborhood and walk around in a man-thong smoking bowls of hash and drinking Jack Daniels out of the bottle.

I would like to see them try that here in my neck of the woods. They would be bombarded with debauchery. That **** won't work here.

Are these patrols made up of last year's refugees?
No, usually activism is fueled not by immigrants, but their descendants. Wait twenty years.

But, here, this is even tastier, you will love it: the founder and leader of this police force, Sven Lau, is a convert, already famous for creating the biggest salafist centre in Germany.

I guess that one day he woke up and decided that looking like a toilet bowl brush would be the greatest achievement of his life. That and, of course, encouraging people to punch their wives and make life worse for their neighbors.
