A consultation gets under way next week on plans for a second Scottish independence referendum, the SNP's Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed ~

Consultation does not mean decision. It does not mean a date for the ballot. It does not mean action. It does not mean a referendum will definitely happen. It means next to nothing.
However, there was in the speech a far more significant announcement which, shorn of rhetoric, drew relatively little applause.
That was when the FM said her government would put forward proposals - which they are already crafting - to maintain as much of Scotland's links with the EU as may be thought feasible, post Brexit.
Crucially, this would be within the UK. It would not require indyref2. It would not require independence. It would, however, require new powers for the Scottish Parliament - including the power to reach transnational agreements. Link.

Sturgeon is plainly angry at Scotland being sidelined in the plans or lack of plans for negotiations as we head toward Brexit. Scotland's pro remain movement may not necessarily translate into more voting for Independence.

Not only did she disagree with what appeared to be the PM's vision for Brexit she was infuriated by language that seemed to suggest the PM would not take seriously the concerns of the Scottish Government. Link.

We are definitely in for more interesting times as the continued fallout from Brexit continues. This time around, I think we would lose Scotland.

She is a little like ukip. She has only one raison d'étre.

I hope they fail just as strongly as I hoped UKIP/Brexit would fail. This petty nationalism is provincial chauvinism disguised as policy.

Not really, the SNP are in government in Scotland with or without independence.

Oh, I know that. Running an area of about 5.4 million people is like being major of a large city. There are all the fiddly things that must be done. But it is the populist cause that keeps her moving, though. The rest is dressing.

SO by that Logic, there is little point to Denmark, Norway, Ireland, Croatia, Albania, Iceland etc because they are all smaller than Scotland's population. :doh

That is not quite, what I said.

Pretty clear to me.

You do not think that the mayor is important? He just does not have a similar impact on and responsibility to global affairs as the PM of a country.

This is just silly. The article is Nicola Sturgeon and Scottish Independence. Scotland is a large country and with independence would have armed forces, borders etc. None of which are available to a mayor.
