Hollande warns Putin: Those behind 'war crimes' will pay

Possibly for dialogue? Sometimes that works ...

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has cancelled a planned visit to France amid a row over Syria.
He had been due to meet French President Francois Hollande and open a new Orthodox church later this month.
But after France's government said talks would be confined to Syria, the visit was halted, French presidential sources said
Syria conflict: Russia's Putin halts France visit amid row - BBC News

The real reason is accusing Putin of war crimes, he is not going to take that. I doubt that China will allow Putin to be put on war crime charges either.

That is your problem there, Russia doesn't want to be "linked" to the Europeans and Americans in the way you envision it, it wants to cooperate & compete with them on equal grounds, and not just to be a member like Poland for instance.

--------------------------
snip.

Russia has joined with China, and while that might change after Putin is gone that is likely to stick for a long time. What I want to know is what does India do, do they join the West or do they join the China/Russia/Iran cooperative? Or maybe they try to be Switzerland.

Well Putin is committing war crimes and he is thwarting US efforts on Assad.

The War Crime Tribunal(ICC) is a Western institution that has not been unhelpful in managing global conflicts, and it will not survive the fall of the USA superpower. It like most of the global institutions will be replaced by the next superpower.

The transition is not to a new superpower, I am afraid. That would be much better than the multi polarity we are headed into. But this will take another decade or two at today's rate of change.

Even if you are right the ICC will be dead. Even the Western Elite have lost faith in its ability to produce anything of value other than retribution.

Your exactly right Dion.

Putin's aircraft are bombing civilian population centers / using banned cluster and incendiary weapons.

Never be afraid to expose an evil such as this.

VI. Conclusion
The end of impunity is seen as goal that will eviscerate the most heinous of crimes
against humanity. This idea found its roots with the end of WWII and has developed into an allencompassing
mission that is seen in the preamble of the UN Charter and the Rome Statute.
Courts have been created on this idea that international crimes are not the actions of intangible
entities but by men of flesh and blood.122
What comes in the of allowing the ICC to truly have
the ability to prosecute those who commit these crimes, is the established, and necessary, right of
sovereignty every nation has. As a result, the ICC, while having good intentions, has the
possibility of becoming nothing more than show court; established to parade out individuals the
court is lucky enough to get in its custody. Part of the ICC’s ineffectiveness is tied to the
political games of the UN and the lack of support from powerhouses like the U.S. and China.
How can there be true deterrence when there is no enforcement? A warning or distant threat of
punishment is unlikely to be sufficient in dissuading those whose goal is power or the eradication
of entire population. Whether the ICC will truly be effective in curbing atrocities will not be
known for several years. As of right now, the ICC is nothing more than good intentions
supported by a weak system.

Except to say that the court will never work, because the new global leaders do not believe in Western Values, even the West does not much practice "Western Values" anymore.

Yesterday, Russia vetoed a French UN Resolution for a cessation of airstrikes on Aleppo to allow humanitarian aid to enter the city. Despite this and Hollande's talk of war crimes, he will receive Putin in Paris next week.
Those behind War Crimes will SURELY PAY! I look forward to the George W. Bush hearings and also the investigations on whom it is responsible for the arming and training of terrorists in Syria.

Dunno about India, but there are voices in Russia that warn about a blind & tight alliance with China as they fear that China is going to abuse that relationship.

Fallen.

It is no fun going into partnership fully as the Little, but all of the other choices for Russia are worse.

Did the US ever sign up? We were never totally convinced. And given the circumstances, for good reason.
