Consumer Group "Which" damns Windows 10

Cortana is off by default.. something lots of these articles forget to mention...

Microsoft Website said:
With the Windows Anniversary update, Cortana is ingrained into the Windows experience in the locales where she is available. This means Cortana can't be entirely turned off. You can use Cortana settings to control exactly what Cortana has access to and how personalized you'd like her assistance to be.

Now you see why your comments can be disregarded. You would have to turn off automatic updates to prevent yourself getting the Anniversary version.

Why would you NOT want the anniversary version? It improves Windows 10.

And Cortana is turned off by default. For **** sake, they specifically ask you when you install Windows 10 if you want it on or not. And by turned off, I mean she wont activate when you say Hey Cortana and wont do anything until you actively use her.

I am looking at the settings just now in the anniversary update and the stuff that cant be turned off is related to search and history.. well it can, but I would not do it. I dont see the problem. Dont you like being able to find your stuff on your machine?

Do you really think that Apple does not know what you are doing on your machine? MacOS has or should have soon SIRI integration.. it syncs your notifications from your phone and ipad to your MacOS... how do you think that happens.. by magic? Or how about syncing photos, documents or whatever across iOS and MacOS? Magic, or through Apple servers?

If you want to be totally off the "grid".. use Linux with no wifi or ethernet ports.. not very functional but hey!

When you're such a fan, nothing big brother ever does is bad Pete.

So why do Microsoft contradict you? Y'know, the people who write the software vs some Danish guy on the net... which should I believe?

It's like Google Chrome - I use older tabletpc's which don't have terravytes of hard disc space. Those searches take up memory just like Google Chrome did before I uninstalled it. So yea, I'm not a big fan of search history amounting to gigabytes on my computer.

I have a windows phone and a MacBook. :2wave:

Oh they do plenty "bad". The EU has busted their balls plenty of times over this.

They dont contradict me at all. There is an off and on button for Cortana. So if you say "Hey Cortana" and she is off.. she wont react or do anything. That is turning off Cortana. Now if you do a search on the PC or the net via the search icon, then you use parts of Cortana to do so. Before Cortana, it was just called.... search. It existed in Windows 7 and XP... just not as advanced of course.

Well why blame Microsoft for giving you a better experience? That you dont want that experience is you problem, and you have choices. How about your Safari browsing history.. got that shut off?

Yes a Windows Phone using 8.1... which has Cortana built in just as Windows 10. In fact that is where she originated (outside Halo of course). And your Macbook.. guess you got no problems it sending tons of info to Apple eh?

Turned off on all my computers and my phone. My problem is storage, not sending data to the software writers which is why I have to protect my settings. :2wave:

Sure... live in that belief... aint happening, both devices are sending tons of info to the makers and others.

You have to make your mind up - computers are either sending a ton of stuff to their makers etc or they're not. Strange that you spend so much effort defending Microsoft and then accept they they're doing exactly what you say you can turn off?
