EUROPE as we know it could go "down the drain" if Britain's EU exit is handled badly and other members states decided to follow the UK out of the door, a German politician fears.

Economy minister Sigmar Gabriel warned the world now saw Europe as an unstable continent following the shock referendum result in June.

And he urged Brussels not to let Britain "keep the nice things" when it game to negotiating the nation's withdrawal from the bloc.

He said: "Brexit is bad but it won't hurt us as much economically as some fear - it's more of a psychological problem and it's a huge problem politically.

"If we organise Brexit in the wrong way then we'll be in deep trouble, so now we need to make sure that we don't allow Britain to keep the nice things, so to speak, related to Europe while taking no responsibility."​

Uhhhhh... am I the only one who sees how utterly bat**** ****ing crazy the Ultranationalist Kingdom is going?

I think there is in Britain as here in France a lot of persons who don't understand that the capacity of these countries to be a hyperpower without anybody's help disappeared with the Suez Crisis, and so they still run after their old glory.

No need to worry, the UK wont get the "nice things" without consequences.. That has been clear from before Brexit. Only the delusional Brexiters actually believed that they could have it all and not pay for it. The longer it takes the UK to trigger article 50, the better it gets for the EU as a whole and the worse of the UK.

But at the moment the UK cant even get enough workers for their Brexit ministry, as those who are offered high paying jobs .. simply refuse or would rather work for the other side.

Also there are more and more reports about banks starting to move jobs to Europe and that will pick up pace as soon as the article 50 is triggered. Wont be long before the car industry and others move.

It is right, that the EU is under siege. Professor Sinn said recently that he expects the probability of Finland being the next to opt out is growing, because the EU is not getting the Euro and its finances in order and the Czech Republic the other day told Merkel, it was thinking of leaving, if the EU did not yield on a number of points. Holland is rather restive and France is certainly going to be more difficult if Le Pain gains much more power.

GB is doing exactly the right thing. The referendum was not binding and gives Government a mandate to leave, if Parliament makes such decision. As of now, neither has happened. Only the EU and German politicians lied about, what the referendum meant.

There is no reason for the UK to trigger Article 50 until the EU has made the changes everyone knows they must. It would be negligent to leave before that time for two reasons.
- Until then, the UK has a vote in the EU and can thus alter the outcome of the process of change. This is important, whether it remains in or leaves the EU.
- If the EU makes the changes that it should for its own populations it would also be a different EU and Brexit would no longer be required.

So don't let the populist electioneering of local politicians or the bureaucratic Pied Pipers of Brussels lead you away into the forests of Neverland.

The thing is that the EU is hampering solutions to the challenges of the 21st century, wasting huge quantities of money cleaning up as the poor policies and ignoring the well being of its populations as old treaties and lies of the past 40 years begin to falter and hurt the populations beyond even the strongest government capabilities of hiding it. And the world sees how incredibly unreliable and self centered the EU is. The only reason for any autocrat in his right mind to treat Europe well is in order to destabilize Nato, while that can be achieved.

But the EU is a really bad organization in most every way you look at it and the European populations should stand up and demand rollback to the point of Consensus or exit. As it stands, it can only harm them further.

I wouldnt be too sure about that. The EU said they would get tough on Russia after the incidents in Ukraine and they ended up folding.

If the UK (Ultranationalist Kingdom) decides to return to its pre-U.S. imperialist fascism in a streak of psychotic nostalgia there is little the EU will do to actually stop it. I used to think the U.S. was the most arrogant collective ego on the planet, but I'm pretty sure this and other recent events associated with it have proven me wrong...

If the UK decides to return to its pre-US imperialist ways... then good luck to them as they will be as isolated as North Korea. They cant bully people as they use too, and dont have the military muscle to force people.

Considering the pussification of the native population, they indeed lack the military force to go around bullying everyone, and considering that half of the UK is of Pakistani/Indian descent, they'd have to turn those people against their homelands.

So your argument was that the UK would sink if it went it's own way.

Now that the markets have decieded that the UK will be fine outside the EU club you are saying that the whole EU will die if the UK is allowed to have a mutually benificial deal with the EU. That the rest will want the same deal.

That might just be because the rest will see that the EU is a bad idea. That the whole direction of it is wrong.

So the UK will be leaving. We will not be paying into the pot. We will not be having free movement of labour.

Would you like a free trade agreement? We would. But if you refuse; so be it.

Your industry will also want such a deal. Your farmers will also demand such a deal. Your consumers will also demand such a deal. Your politicans will not want to drop the grand EU gravy train. Unlucky.

You completely misunderstood what I was referring to- namely how spineless the EU ministers are- they could very well fold if the UK plays hardball with them.

And it astounds me that people like you think that the Ukraine situation is at all relevant. It is a cold war issue between the US and Russia. The EU would rather not have anything to do with the Ukraine and their Nazi government.

So you think the EU ministers are "spineless" when it comes to Russia? Ever think that they dont care about Ukraine at all and were only pushed into the mess thanks to the Americans and Brits? You do know that the EU/US/UK support (at least for now) a borderline neo-nazi government in the Ukraine? Ministers and countries have been distancing it self from almost the start.. from the Ukrainians.. because of this. The only thing keeping the EU in the situation, is a massive political pressure from within NATO.

Now with the UK it is another matter. Here the EU ministers do not want the UK to have all the perks of the EU without consequences.. there will not be any "backing down".. the UK will (when it finally gets its own political mess in order) have to pay dearly for leaving the EU.

Don't be silly. The Ukraine is a European problem, that the EU made an inexcusable mess out of. It was so bad, in fact, that a President that wanted nothing less than that kind of international security imbroglio saw himself forced to act, after the EU had triggered the crisis with that unspeakable "trade" treaty without taking precautions against a Georgian Repeat.

I get where you're coming from, I really do. But the UK is a powerhouse. The EU is a loose assemblage of various disparate and often-times not-seeing-eye-to-eye rivals that borderline hate one another - the best example being the Franco-German rivalry. Unless there is some form of United European Military, I don't see them standing much of a chance against the UK. The United States and China have the EU by the balls.
