Are Gordon Brown's days as PM numbered?

After 10 years of coveting, plotting and scheming for the post of Prime Minister, Gordon Brown is looking very uncomfortable in the role.

Today, facing difficult questions about what he knew regarding payments from an unknown benefactor he cut a distinctly uncomfortable and shifty image as the man to lead us in times of trouble.

Quote:
Recent days have seen Gordon Brown fighting the equivalent of a southern California firestorm - the moment he hoped to have one blaze under control another conflagration erupted in an entirely different place.

And if his appearance at his regular press conference was anything to go by, he fears there is a danger of becoming surrounded and cut off from any means of escape.

It was, in short, probably the most uncomfortable hour Gordon Brown has spent in front of any audience for years.

David Cameron had already set the tone, declaring before the press conference: "There is a time in the life of every government when it slips over from complacency into arrogance, and from arrogance into even indifference for the law. I say we've reached that point and it is time for real change in our country."

The prime minister has already been scorched by, amongst other things, Northern Rock, the missing data CDs, a business revolt over his capital gains tax plans and plummeting poll ratings.

Now he is facing the issue which did so much to distract Tony Blair in the final months of his premiership - alleged sleaze over party finances.

Today wasn't any better - he's labelled as "having gone from Stalin to Mr Bean" in Prime Ministers questions.

BBC NEWS | Politics | Brown on the rack

Quote:
Westminster watchers were struggling to recall the last time a sitting prime minister was subjected to such a stinging character reading.

--snip--

None of it, however, altered the fact that David Cameron delivered one of the most comprehensive rubbishings of his opponent since Mr Brown entered 10 Downing Street.

The prime minister also suffered the indignity of being the butt of the joke of the day, from Lib Dem acting leader Vince Cable.

To loud laughter he noted the Mr Brown's "remarkable transformation in the last few weeks from Stalin to Mr Bean, creating chaos out of order rather than order out of chaos".

Labour backbenchers left the chamber looking downcast, perhaps wondering how it had all come to this.

One way in which he may be able to lift his ratings is that he convert to Catholicism.
Seems to have done Teflon Tony some good, though one doubts it has done anything for his 'soul'.

And thats sufficient for me to vote for the New Labour stain! Whilst being a socialist, my family would disown me if I participated in the attempt to replace Our Brown with that marketing spiv.

A minority Labour government is a likely outcome. Unfortuntately that means middle class cardigan wearers from the South West will have an exaggerated influence, via the Lib Dems

I think more lib-dem influence would be good thing given how there the only party speaking up for badly needed consitutional reforms. That said in the event of a hung parliament we could just as easyly end up with something nightmarish like a concervative-DUP coalition. I hardly think a concervative victory is a given though, camerons only doing so well on account of the long line of **** ups we,ve experienced lately and as soon as that blows over public attention will refocus on his complete lack of integrity.
